Stephen
I have a Netgear router, model RP614v2. It works fine. However, the Netgear website says it has been discontinued, and is not supported in Vista. If I don't want to change it's settings, can I still use it after I switch from XP to Vista? Moderators rridgely Posted March 23, 2007 Moderators Share Posted March 23, 2007 Does netgear make you install any software on your pc? I've used belkin, and linksys routers and neither of them do. All you need to configure is a web browser.. You should still be able to configure the router with vista, unless netgears are different.
JAGO
He should be fine - he should be able to enter via his default gateway. I own a Netgear (wireless B for life ).
Moderators rridgely Posted March 28, 2007 Moderators Share Posted March 28, 2007 wireless b? Yuck. I figured there wouldn't be a problem, but you never know what stupid stuff some companies will do.
XPSP2
I have the same router. To change settings, I type in an address. I fail to see what difference it makes which OS you are using. It works with Linux. Surely it will be easier to find support for Vista than Linux. No?

Jheurf
Well I just got a Sony Vaio with Vista Home Premium and my RP614v2 ain't working with it. Vista sees the router and all, but when I try to open IE, I get an unable to connect to DSN crap. Somehting to do with "TCP Window Scaling" from what I can find on the 'Tubes. If I connect the Laptop directly to my DSL box, it works fine.
Moderators rridgely Posted August 3, 2007 Moderators Share Posted August 3, 2007 Try opening the router up with no wireless protection on it. If it connects then, you might just be entering your password wrong or something.
Jheurf
Router isn't wireless. Vista sees the network, but can't connect to the internet.
