I want to try a new anti-virus software, I dont know what to use.. Which one is recommended? Something reliable, or better than Norton. Both are good but Antivir has the better detection rates. I like AVG more because it is still effective and has the smallest memory footprint.(meaning faster computer for you. ) Either one you pick will work just fine. The 3rd on the list is avast. Use add/remove programs first and then run CCleaner's issues scanner multiple times untill nothing is found anymore. Kaspersky Actually nod32 is good and so is Kaspersky but I don't see any reason to pay for any security software ever. Widkidone Posted February 10, 2007 Share Posted February 10, 2007 NOD32 is a great Anti-Virus. It uses less resource, and does a better job than Norton. Also Kaspersky is like $69 for a single year, but NOD32 is $58-$59 for two years. I am a Anti-Norton person.....LOL. Anything is better than Norton in my opinion. Also AVG is not going to have a free version anymore.....they are ending the free version this month. Avast is one of the best free versions out there. I heard this before but it's not quite true. Take a look at Grisoft: GRISOFT today announced the extension of user product support for AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.1 through February 18, 2007. Product support for users of version 7.1 had been scheduled to expire on January 15th. This change will provide additional time for users to upgrade to AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5 or other AVG products. Grisoft only wants you to update to 7.5. XanaTos112 Posted February 10, 2007 Share Posted February 10, 2007 ive tried avg,norton,avast,nod32,and kaspersky.and for me none of them come close to kaspersky.everything about it is excellent.only problem is the cost. ive only heard good things about avira,and its free,so imo u shud get that. what spyware scanners u using?cud probably update those if u been using norton this long Who watches The Watchmen? I have just uninstalled (with Symantec tool), the 90 day free version of Norton 2005, and installed Norton Internet Security 2007 which I picked up for ?25, a small price to pay for Antivirus: Personal Firewall: Antispyware: Antiphishing. Since I began using Norton, the only thing that has gotten onto my pc has been an inconsequential tracking cookie. I have "Show Antivirus Alerts" and "Show Firewall Alerts" enabled, to see what does try to come down from the ether, and Norton has stopped some of the nastiest, high risk items you could imagine. That can be equalled by other applications, but not bettered. I trust my Internet Security Software implicitly. Which is more than I can say for the one which came free with my broadband. A big company which I won`t name, out of respect for anyone using it. Pm me if you must know, because I had to do 2 destructive recoveries because of what it let through. Yes, Norton wriggles itself into all sorts of nooks and crannies, but it can wriggle itself into any where it likes, as long as it continues to do what it says on the packet. I never have any problems downloading software, or with new software accessing the internet for the first time. It learns and makes rules for new software, and it has never let me down, and I do regular scans with Norton, as well as with 3 other applications, to be more than sure, and I have never found a thing. So, with respect, next time someone wants to knock a Security Software Company, they should ask themselves the question. Have I fired 5 shots or six ? XanaTos112 Posted February 10, 2007 Share Posted February 10, 2007 Norton Internet Security may be good,but its a safe bet there are many cheaper/possibly free programs that will be just as good if not better.when i first started to use my pc(ages ago) i thought norton anti-virus was amazing for a few years,but now with hindsight i was totally wrong. if you want the best security possible,your best bet is to use what the experts use,and i dont think many wud list any norton programs in that list.each to their own though,especially if ur pc is fine like dennis's Who watches The Watchmen? It amazes me how people there think they are technically inclined yet they can't read? I've pretty much given up on that website. It used to be awesome, now its just a joke.
