Avi to DVD

I thought I'd try out the Avi2Dvd free software for converting some avi files I had which I wanted to watch on TV instead of the computer, and was very surprised at the good results I got with it.

I used the guide here ( very easy to follow) which I printed off.

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/av...dvd_avi2dvd.cfm

One thing I was a bit unsure about was the aspect ratio of the TV. I'm still a bit puzzled as I tried both settings 4:3 and 16:9 and cannot see much difference

Also I know Decrypter has been overtaken, but it always works on my machine and if it's not broken, I'm not going to fix it!

Just thought I'd share my thoughts on this software with you.

P.S My files are legal.

4:3 ratio is for standard tv screens we've all been used to forever.

16:9 is the widescreen ratio for those new snazzy LCD and Plasma tv's that cost an arm and a leg.

Edit:

Forgot to mention:

16:9 ratio tv's won't have a problem playing back 4:3 ratio. However, not all 4:3 ratio tv's can playback a 16:9 image if they don't have a widescreen mode they can switch to. Thank goodness my Sony tv has the ability to view 16:9 otherwise so many rented movies would've been a waste of money.

ive been trying to make an image with this software.

i too have some avi files, stuff from a camcorder, and wanted to just make an image of it for someone else.

wheres that pesky iso stored at?

does it create 2 new folders?

i only found one folder and it had a .ac3 file in it.

That's the reason I printed off the user guide aaron!! So I would know these things. :)

It will ask you where you want the iso file stored before you start convertion, BUT remember no matter which output folder you choose to store it in, a folder called Av2dvd.temp will be created in it.

You did remember to check " make iso" ?

Yes, after the download of Avi2dvd and Decrypter, just follow the guide. Don't do anything at all while it is transcoding and make sure your screensaver doesn't come on.

You can give your iso a name such as "party" or whatever, to make it obvious.

Try following the guide carefully Aaron, I'm sure with your capabilities you'll do it.

do you know if it puts a logo in the screen or something?

It didn't put any logo's or anything on mine Aaron.

I have found it best to start it and then go to bed and find it done in the morning. The iso burning only takes 5-10 minutes as opposed to the hours it takes to transcode.

Just remember to follow the instructions in the guides! Good luck!
