CCleaner v5.63.7540 crashing in Windows 7

I posted the below as a reply to another post in this forum under the topic Can not start and clean.  I will also post a picture of my screen shot below as well.  Again hope this helps fix the issue or point others to a solution.

"I have also run into this same crashing issue as of probably January 4, 2020.  Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software to no avail.  It seems to work for a while and then begins crashing, usually on the analyze portion.  I am using Windows 7 32 bit OS.  Not sure if this matters or not.  Have been using CCleaner now for almost a decade with no problems until recently.  Also, thought I might have malware which might be causing this to crash but ran numerous scans with different programs and from what I can  tell my system is clean but still getting crashes.  I am also running CCleaner free edition version 5.63.7540.

Hope this helps.  I suspect there is a bug in the program somewhere.  Hopefully Piriform can fix it.  There product is awesome."

I've flagged both threads up for the staff to bring to the attention of the developers.

This could be related to Bitdefender. We have previous reports about 32-bit OS users about Bitdefender causing errors in CCleaner, and have been recommending that if a user has Bitdefender, that they exclude CCleaner. If they don't have Bitdefender, then we will probably have to direct the user to support and investigate further.

nukecad.  Thanks for feedback.  Although I do have BitDefender I have had it for a while now with no problems running CCleaner.  However what is interesting is that I have run CCleaner now a few times after say Jan 8 or 9th or so with no issues.  My system did however run some windows updates on Jan. 5th the only one ran on that date was a System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 (KB947821).  Not sure if something just got broken and windows update fixed it.  Don't know for sure but CCleaner seems fine now.  I also did not add an exclusion to my BitDefender either.  Just some thoughts on what I experienced.

Thanks for reporting that dcetra,

It may well be that something in the Windows update fixed whatever was causing the clash with Bitdefender (or something else).
Windows works in mysterious ways at times.

PS. I know that some are planning to stay with Windows 7 even though it has now reached End of Life, and you may be one of them.
But did you know that you can still upgrade Win7 (or Win 8.1) to Win 10 for FREE, - yes the Free Upgrade still works if you have a valid licence for 7 or 8.1.
Although Microsoft said it had ended in 2016 they never actually turned it off. (They only removed the GWX tool that did it as part of automatic updates).

Nukecad,

Thanks for feedback.  Yes i did know about the windows 7 to 10 upgrade license issue still working.  I am a PC troubleshooting, upgrade and repair hobbyist and help family and friends alot so i did know about that.  I also listen to quite a few PC repair tech podcasts and some others ones which mentioned this several times.  Goid info though for others who might come across this.  Again thanks for this forum to post comments, issues and such.  I always forget to check forums when i run into things that i have never seen before.  Have a good year.

Hello,

i clicked on the update notification and now CCleaner crashes and won't start although i've been using it for years.

I have an old Windows 7 system, running on an old pc (I had to go back to win 7 because some of my old software wouldn't start in windows 10).

Is there a way to download an older version of CCleaner so it will run on my pc?

Thanks for your help (sorry for my english, my first language is french)

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.
