CCleaner trial fails to remove $MFT files

The option is "Wipe MFT Free Space" - not delete the MFT. (Which is not something you should do anyway, it would make your computer unusable).

From the CCleaner documentation:

Quote

The Master File Table (MFT) contains an index of the files on an NTFS drive. As the computer overwrites and deletes files, the MFT can accumulate free space which may contain remnants of index pointers to deleted files. You can now set CCleaner to wipe the MFT free space, just as you have been able to set it to wipe free drive space.

Worried about 'Tracking Files'? Worried about why some files come back after cleaning? See this link:

$MFT files are MFT files that have been already been deleted.  These $MFT deleted files are taking up several gigabytes of space on my hard drive.  I'd like to free up all that wasted space.  It says on the Internet that CCleaner is the only program able to get rid of $MFT files but I've run CCleaner five times.  It says it is wiping the files but doesn't.

Look here, old article but should put this to rest:

To quote one line from that article:

The MFT Zone is not subtracted from available (free) drive space used for user data files, it is only space that is used last.
