lemerd594
CCleaner found in excess of 6000 Mb junk. Hard to believe. How can I view these items before cleaning them?
Moderators nukecad Posted August 16, 2019 Moderators Share Posted August 16, 2019 600MB is quite possible if you have not run CCleaner before, or not run it for a while. From your description I think you will have used the 'Easy Clean'? Instead use the Custom Clean, which gives you more viewing options. After an analyze you should see a screen similar to this, showing what CCleaner has found where: (Don't worry about Firefox being skipped that was deliberate on my part, and don't worry about Edge being highlighted like that yours won't be). Double clicking on any of those entries will give you details of the actual files found, eg. I double clicked 'System - Windows Log Files to get this: *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? Worried about why some files come back after cleaning? lemerd594
Sorry!! Should have read 6000Mb. Possibly counting clipboard? I do a lot of copy and paste.
Moderators nukecad Posted August 16, 2019 Moderators Share Posted August 16, 2019 It could well be the clipboard. I'm not sure just how the new style multi-clipboard works. (I still use the single clip at a time). But it has to store the multiple clips somewhere. I'm guessing that might show under 'System - Temporary Files' following an Analyze in CC? Edit. CC can sometimes struggle deleting very large amounts of data. If it does then the built in Disk Clean-up will get the majority (taking a long time) and then CC will do the rest. Edit2. Your first post did say 6000 it was me that read it wrong. *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? Worried about why some files come back after cleaning? lemerd594
When I run back to back CCleaner sessions the total remains at 6550 cleaned, regardless of the precleaned total. This thing has gone south. Will attempt to attempt their support again. Thanks for your efforts.
Moderators Andavari Posted August 17, 2019 Moderators Share Posted August 17, 2019 Where is it finding that amount of data to clean? Just assuming however if it's by chance the Recycle Bin it could be corrupt and CCleaner won't be able to clean it, have a look here for a solution if it is the Recycle Bin:https://forum.piriform.com/topic/42673-corrupted-recycle-bin-fix/
Moderators nukecad Posted August 17, 2019 Moderators Share Posted August 17, 2019 That's odd, how long is a clean taking? If you can post a screen shot similar to those above we might be able to spot something. You could also try running CC in debug mode to see what the log says - but with that many files it's probably going to be a big logfile so we'll leave that for later. Edit- Andavari's thought about a corrupted recycle bin is a distinct possibility, we've seen a couple of those recently. *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? In my opinion the safe way to empty the Recycle Bin is by using the tools made by Microsoft which are built into Windows. Many 3rd party cleaning tools from what I've experienced over the years can cause Recycle Bin corruption from what I've seen - hence the reason I don't allow any 3rd party tool to clean it on my systems. The traditional built-in Windows clipboard only kept one entry, and indeed kept it in memory. Other clipboard apps can save multiple entries, and can save them across reboots (or even crashes) by writing them to temporary files. Windows 10 clipboard can now also save multiple entries, and is able to share clips between devices. You can also "pin" clips so that they are always available, to do that they have to be written to disc because otherwise they would not survive a reboot.https://pureinfotech.com/sync-clipboard-across-devices-windows-10/ *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? lemerd594
Thanks for all the input. I have checked each one out to no avail. Have contacted support. Hopefully will get this solved soon and will share.
Willy2
- Just look at what the "Custom Clean" option pulls up. It will tell you what application is associated with that 6 GB in junk files. I consider it most likely that those files are associated with a browser (Firefox, Google chrome, ........... ) - Please post a screenshot of the details of that "Custom Clean". then there is no need/less need to contact support.
