Moderators Nergal Posted May 28, 2019 Moderators Share Posted May 28, 2019 The IP the VPN is giving you is tied to a country piriform can't do business in (due to sanctions, laws) ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. ulferik
The country I'm connecting to is Sweden and that is the country I have stated in my subscription. I have had this subscription for many years also in Sweden. At the moment in Portugal. Could it be that Piriform doesn't have a clue to where i'm connecting and just send and error anyway? The funny thing is that Piriform doesn't answer my ticket.
Moderators nukecad Posted May 29, 2019 Moderators Share Posted May 29, 2019 It's an ongoing problem at the moment, and not just with CCleaner. We have seen a few posts about it. Some internet service providers have acquired ranges of IPs that were orignally allocated to Syria/Iran/Iraq/North Korea. This can be a problem for users because some of these IP ranges are still being blocked from downloading and/or running certain software, or even visiting some sites. Some geoIP lookup databases still see these IP's as coming from the banned/sanctioned countries. It should get corrected in time, but at the moment I've seen a few forum posts here and elsewhere from European users who are being affected. We had one here last month where, when checked, the users IP was showing as Iran and so was getting blocked.https://forum.piriform.com/topic/53819-ccleaner-error-the-product-is-forbidden-to-use-in-your-place-of-stay/?tab=comments#comment-305511 To see if this is your problem then try visiting a few IP geolocation tools and seeing what country they say your IP's are in. Heres a couple of links:https://www.iplocation.net/https://www.ipfingerprints.com/ With a VPN-router it should be fairly easy to change what IP it is using. (One of the reasons for using one is to get around country blocks). Contact the router manufacturer for help with this. *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? Worried about why some files come back after cleaning? ulferik
Thank's Nukecad for the answer. I'll try to talk to manufacturer about it. In the meantime I'll check this IP 217.64.148.112 to see if it has any connection with the mullahs in Iran :-).
ulferik
I have found out what the problem is: This ip 217.64.148.112 was earlier used by someone in Iran. CCleaner hasn't updated it's GEO-data therefor this ip is blocked. Since CCleaner isn't responding on my tickets I don't know what to do....... Moderators nukecad Posted May 29, 2019 Moderators Share Posted May 29, 2019 It isn't a CCleaner problem - It's the Geoblocking provider that are being slow to update their blocklists. (Some are quicker than others). Software manufacturers do not have their own lists, they reference one or more of the Geoblock providers. If your IP is being reported as assigned to Iran then you will find that quite a few things are going to be blocked. The way that geoblocking works is by having blacklists of IPs/countries that are excluded from doing certain things and using certain software. Software has to reference one or more of these lists (by law) to check if usage is allowed at that location. So if the Goeblocking list is out of date then the software can't change it, only the geoblocking company can change it. So you need to either: Shout at your VPN provider to update their IP's/blocking. Change your IP - Which is exactly one reason why VPN routers exist, to get around country blocks. Again as you have installed a new Vilfo router then you should contact Vilfo for help: https://www.vilfo.com/ If you go to that webpage there is a contact email (Top Right) and a chat button (Bottom Right). This "Getting started" page should help you: https://docs.vilfo.com/getting-started *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? ulferik
OK nukecad.. I have connected to another endpoint in Sweden and CCleaner is now working. I got the impression that CCleaner did there own GEO blocklists (not my profession) I have now learned that there is someone else that should update this. The help section of the router didn't say anything about Iran and GEOblocking. At least it's working now and I'm happy. CCleaner is a very useful tool for me. Thank's for helping.... Moderators nukecad Posted May 29, 2019 Moderators Share Posted May 29, 2019 Good to hear you got it sorted out. This problem should eventually dissapear as the blocking lists get updated. But it does seem to be taking a while. *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? Worried about why some files come back after cleaning? Admin Dave CCleaner Posted May 29, 2019 Admin Share Posted May 29, 2019 Just by way of background, companies required to enforce export restrictions do not each maintain their own global geoIP lookup databases but rely on specialist providers such as the ones mentioned above. And to be extra-safe, most will use more than one and go with the most conservative. IP range owners need to inform the geoIP databases provider of outdated information to avoid adversely impacting their customers. Also worthy of note is that the CCleaner software does not keep any track of where you have been - it only checks where you are at a particular time when you try to use it. ulferik
I need the Vilfo router because I'm working in different regions and need to have encrypted communications and be able to bypass cerin websites or ip's. Therefor i was a bit shocked when i realised that the sanitation of my computers was in danger when CCleaner refused to start. I could see that the IP in question was clearly owned by this company in Stockholm and therefor was not updated at CCleaner. Anyway I got my router running and so also CCleaner, made my life easier. Thank's all for taking time.....

IP addresses are checked and then discarded.
