CTaylor
Nice to see the addition of Software Updater and it might prod me to upgrade to Pro. But first I need to know; 1 - is there a list published of the programs you detect/update? 2 - Is this an "update manager" or a "Vulnerability manager". Quite frankly I am only interested if it is a "vulnerability manager". I can decide on my own if I want to update software for new features etc. But I think it is VERY important to update software that has a security vulnerability for which a patch is available. What I am REALLY looking forward to is a replacement for the discontinued "Personal Software Inspector" from Flexera (used to be Secunia) Thanks, Chris
Moderators Nergal Posted March 14, 2019 Moderators Share Posted March 14, 2019 It's pulling its updates from file hippo so the list is any software on that site (for better or worse). Sadly, as I miss PSI dearly too, it is an update availability not vulnerability ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. jwoods
Since the demise of Secunia PSI, I have been pretty happy with PatchMyPC.
CTaylor
Thanks Nergal and jwoods This is too bad. I really want a vulnerability manager that only looks for security issues. I remain hopeful that some old Secunia employees get VulnDetect off the ground. They were originally hopeful to get a free product off the ground by last fall. https://vulndetect.org/ Chris

On my PC CCleander found 8 applications and VulnDetect found 66 products. So will there be other resources or just FileHippo?
Moderators TwistedMetal Posted March 14, 2019 Moderators Share Posted March 14, 2019 I'm guessing just FileHippo, they probably have a partnership going or something. Moderators hazelnut Posted March 15, 2019 Moderators Share Posted March 15, 2019 As far as I know, Piriform owned FileHippo before the takeover by Avast. So perhaps that was part of the package. Moderators Andavari Posted March 15, 2019 Moderators Share Posted March 15, 2019 It's was speculated for many years, and then some findings on the Internet helped validate it, but not "from the horses mouth" since they've never stated anything about it.
