Samsung is loading McAfee antivirus software on smart TVs

Recommended Posts

wasn't Samsung TV's the ones with the issue a few years ago where the in-built mic or camera was able to be hacked and remotely accessed?

Smart TVs can get hacked or have a ransomware appear on screen. See the Consumer Reports YouTube channel they have some videos starting in 2018 I believe about Smart TV security, and what to turn off in them.

McAfee (whitelabelled) has also been on Samsung phones since the S7 series. Despite the negative reaction in the comments section of that article from folks who may be less than overjoyed with having McAfee preloaded on their PCs, if they take the same approach with the TVs as with the phones it is likely that no-one will notice that it is even on there.

That seems to be Piriforms approach also.

I'm surprised nobody ever complains about Trend Micro being embedded inside Sony PlayStation for basic "security", has been since PS3.
