scota
I have started using Vivaldi, because I do not like Google. When I use only Vivaldi and then run CCleaner (paid edition) CCleaner reports that it has cleaned Google Chrome. This concerns me that Vivaldi might be Chrome in disguise, or, does CCleaner use "Google Chrome" as a default for browsers that are not IE, Edge, FireFox, and Chrome? Please advise/ Thanks! Moderators Nergal Posted October 3, 2018 Moderators Share Posted October 3, 2018 All "child browser" are cleaned by the section of browser on which it is based ("parent browser"). Vivaldi is a child of chrome thus is cleaned via the chrome section. ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Impossible really to use the Internet and not have any interaction with Google. There's allot of Chrome-clones, and allot of browsers including Firefox use Google for Safe Browsing and creates a cache for it and without it we'd more likely get infected. THANKS! That explains a lot. Although Vivaldi uses the Chromium engine, I'm still leery of Google. It would not surprise me that wrote some backdoor process that gathers Vivaldi information and stores it.
