[SOLVED] CCleaner has stopped working

Hello,

So my apologies if this is in the incorrect section, however I am a bit flummoxed as to why CCleaner has suddenly stopped opening and won't install when I removed it. I have performed a full virus scan with Kaspersky and checked the processes running on my copy of Windows 7 x64. When I boot into safe mood I was able to install CCleaner and had luck in opening it and performing a registry clean, but when I attempted to scan it ran then crashed (displaying am message that it has stopped working). When I boot normally it just opens for a second, immediately freezes, and then states that the application has stopped working.

The odd thing is that it was working fine before I recently installed some drivers for an Epson scanner, so it's a theory but I have a hard time imagining it as the cause. Anybody out there with a better idea than I?

Thanks in advance to all who reply!

EDIT - SOLVED:

I had previously performed a system restore but when I performed a system restore to a date that was prior to install of the drivers for my Epson V600 Scanner I was able to regain full functionality of CCleaner. I am not sure what is to blame (Epson or an update), but obviously there was some sort of confliction that existed. My appreciation to all those who offered help. Hopefully anyone experiencing similar issues is able to use either my solution or the solutions below to their benefit. :D

kapersky and ccleaner lately don't get along.

If this happens again (for the install) try the Slim build from http://ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds

Also try

While your bug is a bit different, it might fix the other issue plaguing your ccleaner

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

That sounds like a known clash with Kaspersky.

Basically if you are using Kaspersky and have CCcleaner set to show the 'Summary' screen then CCleaner crashes when run.

Setting CCleaner to display it's resuls as a file list has worked for many: (You might want to read the rest of this link as well).

Worried about 'Tracking Files'? Worried about why some files come back after cleaning? See this link:

Hello nukecad,

First off, I greatly appreciate you taking the time to reply and the suggestion. My previous install was actually set to file list, however I can't say the same thing for my re-installation. I will boot into safemode and try to see what it is set to since that's the only way I can access the options.

EDIT1:

Hello Nergal,

I stupidly didn't actually see your post earlier but after seeing that my install was still set to "file list" I will try your suggestion in safe mode to see if it fixes anything... strangely in a typical boot of Windows it won't start the installer either... may consider Kaspersky or my original theory of the recent install as it doesn't make any sense but that was immediately when it stopped working. Anyways, I'll give both a try and report back once I have.

EDIT2 - SOLVED:

I was able to restore functionality of CCleaner by performing a system restore to a point that was earlier than the restore point created by the install of the Epson drivers. I am not sure if it was an update or the drivers that caused the issue, as there are other problems now (such as java_home cannot be determined) but it otherwise appears to be working. I will look into it a little more and see if I can figure out anything else.
