smithy
Hi, I'm getting some issues when running CCleaner, which are not clear to me, see below. ActiveX/COM Issue LocalServer32\J:\Programs\Adobe Illustrator CC 2018Support Files\Contents\Windows\Illustrator.exe /Automation HKCR\CLSID\{84A1A957-2984-4515-9DD9-8CF148FA665C} Illustrator works fine. Is it safe to remove the issue? What does /Automation mean? Thanks in advance for any help.
Moderators mta Posted December 21, 2017 Moderators Share Posted December 21, 2017 g'day @smithy and welcome to the forum. unless your PC is having issues that no other means have been able to rectify, there should be no reason to be using CC's reg cleaner. official MS response; https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2563254/microsoft-support-policy-for-the-use-of-registry-cleaning-utilities Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. smithy
You didn't answer my question and you didn't tell me anything I already didn't know. You're not promoting the usefulness of CCleaner.
Moderators mta Posted December 22, 2017 Moderators Share Posted December 22, 2017 why are you running the reg cleaner? what is it you are expecting it to achieve? if it's bothering you, why not right click that entry and add it to the exclude list. 21 hours ago, smithy said: Is it safe to remove the issue? without knowing why the key was put there, who can say with absolute certainty that something somewhere won't be broken by its removal. that's the problem with reg cleaners, their cause and effects can take ages to become known. 21 hours ago, smithy said: What does /Automation mean? looks like a parameter passed to Illustrator, so researching the Adobe sites would be your best bet on that one. 3 hours ago, smithy said: You're not promoting the usefulness of CCleaner. that's not my job. for cleaning your PC of crap files, CC is excellent. some of it's other functions, like reg cleaning and dup file removal can be straight out dangerous. use them with due care and a good back regime in place.
