Carl Furr
I'm unable to erase, eliminate, or otherwise purge the history in Google Chrome (GC) once I exit and launch CCleaner. I recently (11-19-17) formatted hard drive, reinstalled Win 10, 64 bit configuration and have been unable to erase google chrome history whether I use the window app that automatically launches when I exit GC or manually launch CClearner and request said cleaning. I have uninstalled CCleaner Pro and all the other apps as well as GC, then reinstalled CCleaner Pro based on the Piriform website download link, and subsequently reinstalled GC, ALL TO NO AVAIL...and before anyone suggests otherwise, GC and CCleaner are the latest versions of same. I've even gone into Settings in GC, launched the Advanced link, went to the header "System" and disabled "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed". Nothing seems to work. Any sugestions?
Moderators mta Posted November 21, 2017 Moderators Share Posted November 21, 2017 when you exit Chrome, bring up Task Manager and check for any instances of chrome.exe Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. Carl Furr
This print screen shot of task manager shows what is applicable after exiting GC. Please see below.
Moderators Nergal Posted November 21, 2017 Moderators Share Posted November 21, 2017 Try killing the google crash handler and see if that helps; also, since your screenshot only goes to m, check for plugincontainer.exe ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Carl Furr
Tried your suggestions, and thanks by the way for trying to help. Unfortunately, killing google crash handler and looking for, and not finding any reference to "plugincontainer.exe" didn't rectify problem. I've included several screen shots of CCcleaner, and Task Mgr for your review. They only portion of Task Mgr where Google is even referenced, once I completed your suggested tasks, is in Section Tab--Service, where gupdate and gupdatem are stopped, which I assume is opposite to running. Once I accomplished what you suggested, i.e., killing google crash handler, I launch CCleaner again, then launched GC and found history still intact. Even launched a line item to see if it would go to the appropriate web page and it did just that so the history isn't being deleted.
