Wipe free space option

Recommended Posts

I know what this does, but what does it overwrite the free space with? In other words, will it fill up the free space on my HDD rendering it useless? Or will that space still be available after its been wiped?

It will first fill your drive then upon completion will delete said filling freeing up the space again

Nergal, what he is asking is what happens to the freed space. Does CC Cleaners write 0s and 1s into the cleaned space? That is what the Windows formatting system, EasUs and most all the partition managers do so that they avoid falling into 1/2 speed by getting out of order.

I understood and answered, the same that I'd answer your read of it.  But, I'll try again: the freespace of the drive is overwritten by one or more random letter files.  Once that space is filled (it'll at this point look like you have no space left on the drive) ccleaner will flush the files with a non-recycle-bin delete; this will leave you with the same free space at the beginning.

It should be noted that freespace wipe too often will significantly reduce the life of a drive.
