kasp
I removed the program with revo. It is no longer listed in Revo or the program list on my computer or in the all apps. It is not listed any where in reg edit - software or under Microsoft. It is not listed in app data or in temporary files. It is not in the start menu. It is not running in the task manager lists. But the folder is there in file explorer with two items listed, and they cannot be removed. I tried to run the whole computer under the Administrator log in and remove it but got the same error message, tried right clicking the various two items in the regular log in - in the Ccleaner folder and clicked on run as administrator but I got the same error message. I cannot drag and drop it in the trash CCleaner. I get error messages indicating that I do not have the right permissions. - see attached I tried to download a new Ccleaner thinking I could overwrite what I had, but it too said I did not have the right permissions and could not install it. I am running Windows 10 home edition. I have tons of ram . Frustrated Pleas advise.... thanks in advance.
Moderators nukecad Posted September 4, 2017 Moderators Share Posted September 4, 2017 You may need to take ownership of the folder and its contents before you can delete it. (or move it, etc.) (Not sure why you don't have ownership of that particular folder, but it can happen). Yes, even as Admin you may not have ownership of certain files or folders. (System files and some other Microsoft files for instance). It can be a bit long winded to take manually take ownership of a file with Windows 10, see here: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-take-ownership-files-and-folders-windows-10 There is an easier way - by adding a "Take Ownership" option to your right click context menu you can do it with a couple of clicks. It does mean modifying the registry, but don't panic. The easiest way to do this is by running a third party script that adds the option to your context menu for you. There are a few scripts about if you search, I used this one to put it on my Win 10 context menu and it works fine: http://www.intowindows.com/add-take-ownership-to-right-click-menu-in-windows-10/ *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? Moderators mta Posted September 4, 2017 Moderators Share Posted September 4, 2017 and if you still require more options, try deleting the folder with the PC in Safe Mode or get a little utility called Unlocker (available here; http://www.emptyloop.com/unlocker/#download) todo the heavy lifting for you. be warned with Unlocker, it tries to load toolbars and the like but the offerings can be unticked. Moderators Andavari Posted September 5, 2017 Moderators Share Posted September 5, 2017 Having a Linux distro that's for instance bootable from a USB stick is also a very handy way of getting rid of files that Windows is resistant against letting you delete.
