Moderators hazelnut Posted July 15, 2017 Moderators Share Posted July 15, 2017 Have you received an email claiming to come from WhatsApp that warns that you have been using the service for more than one year and that it’s time to take out a subscription? Just a warning to the WhatsApp users out there https://www.welivesecurity.com/2017/07/14/bogus-whatsapp-subscription/ Support contact https://support.ccleaner.com/s/contact-form?language=en_US&form=general or support@ccleaner.com
Moderators mta Posted July 15, 2017 Moderators Share Posted July 15, 2017 your mention of WhatsApp reminded me that at the moment the Australian government is debating allowing a back-door into WhatsApp and other encrypted messaging services stating the global fight on terrorism as a reason. so another cautionary tale with using that app. Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last.
Moderators hazelnut Posted July 15, 2017 Author Moderators Share Posted July 15, 2017 WhatsApp is mega, mega important to loads of people (some live on it !!) So the warning I posted is important to the happy cliickers who fear they will lose WhatsApp if they don't click on that message. Perhaps Facebook, the owner of WhatsApp, may fight this Australian government debate. I have a feeling that the app will move onto another type of encryption if backdoored. Moderators DennisD Posted July 17, 2017 Moderators Share Posted July 17, 2017 I hope users realise that WhatsApp scrapped this "one year trial then nominal subscription" system some time back. WhatsApp is 100% free, 100% of the time. Although I'm not naive enough to think that some governments could, and probably would take advantage of a back door type thing, I would be more than happy to live with that it if succeeded in preventing one single terrorist attack.
