piripiricw
Hello! I've been using CCleaner for a long time in Windows environment and regarded it as a very good product! Suppose it still is but for the moment it isn't working correctly on my Mac regarding deletion of or erasing the internet history in Chrome. Cookies are deleted, trash bin is emptied ..., but not the internet history. I'm running Chrome version 55.0.2883.95 (64-bit) and the OS is macOS Sierra, version 10.12.2 . I'm using the CCleaner free version 1.14.451. It would be nice if you can find a reason to this. I can see that the file History, History-journal and maybe other related files in the Users/<user>/Library/Application support/Google/Chrome/Default directory remain untouched after I've been running CCleaner. This is of course one of the main reasons for running CCleaner, to among other things easily wipe out the internet history for the computer. Kind regards /CW
Moderators Nergal Posted January 4, 2017 Moderators Share Posted January 4, 2017 Just to be sure. Chrome needs to not be set to sync history, also make sure cloud print is turned off. If chrome is running (including cloud sync and cloud print) ccleaner may not have access to the databases needed for cleaning ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Moderators TwistedMetal Posted January 5, 2017 Moderators Share Posted January 5, 2017 CCleaner is not deleting Google Chrome History? There are a few workarounds to fix the problem. There is not a problem with CCleaner, it's because Google Chrome is cloud based.#1) Chrome is synced to your Google account. Therefore all browsing information is stored there and won't be cleaned. You can either disable History from the Chrome sync settings, or stop syncing. Go to Menu, Settings, Sign in. This will fix the problem most of the time. There is another workaround, if for some reason the above does not work.#2) When a process associated with Google Chrome is running during the cleaning operation. All internet browsers need to be closed in order for them to be cleaned properly by CCleaner.*There is a setting in Chrome that allows background applications to run after Chrome has already been closed. Go to Menu, Settings, Show advanced settings... uncheck "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed".Hopefully this will fix the problem! johnnylakis
CCleaner for mac is working fine for me. Be sure that your selection for secure deletion is "normal" and not "secure". Sierra no longer allows secure deletion since Apple now uses SSD drives in most of their machines and those drives do not support secure erase. Moderators mta Posted March 4, 2017 Moderators Share Posted March 4, 2017 @johnny, what does your response have to do with the OP question? he's talking internet history in Chrome and your talking secure deletion. Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last.
