NVIDIA GeForce GT 620

Hi,

My desktop has NVidia GeForce GT 620 installed (original) and when the computer is running a long time (one full day or more ) the temperature as recorded by SPECCY goes up to 100º C and the computer shuts down instantly, with no warning.

As I have two displays (Screens) this happens more with one that is a Generic PnP Monitor (may be used also as a TV monitor), and much less with the other one an ASUS VK228.

Any idea why it happens? To warm up to the point it shuts down without notice?

Is the Generic PnP Monitor not adequate for computer usage?

Any help is welcome.

Regards

Joaquim

how old is the PC and video card?

have you taken the side cover off the tower to check the video card's fan is running?

what about dust build up in general, and especially on the graphic card heat sink.

if the motherboard has an inbuilt video port, take out the GT620 and use it to see if the PC still shuts down or you have monitor issues.

I simply suspect the card is over-heating (for whatever reason) and the PC is hitting a thermal limit and shutting down to prevent damage.

It's hard to say if the Speccy temp can be believed as there are numerous posts covering Speccy's wrongly reporting temperatures.

But 100oC would definitely be in the 'time to shut down' category.

Backup now & backup often.
