- Microsoft released a new update to "improve the stability of the Servicing Stack". Is this the fix for the nagging Windows Update problem many Windows users have experienced since the second quarter of 2016 ?

For more info (Win 7 & Windows Server 2008 systems):
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3177467

I assume Vista & Win 8 users will have to install a similar update for their OS as well.

- If this is the (final ??) fix for this nagging Windows Update problem then it's weird that this update/fix is considered to be "Optional". I think it should be considered "Important". Or is this a trail balloon to see whether or not this would solve this "Windows Update" problem ??

Thanks, Hazelnut.  Worked very well here on win 7.

The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-)

Pssssst: ... It isn't really a cloud. Its a bunch of big, giant servers.

Helped way more than 2, I think.  :)

Anyway, I am seriously considering disabling win 7 updates soon.

Am considering the pros and cons of running win 7 in "shadowed" mode until this hardware fails.

That is still a successful strategy here for win xp, has been since before microsoft abandoned it.

The win 7 to win 10 push really disturbed me.  It basically crippled my family's computers.

I'm not sure it's even safe to continue auto updates for win 7 until microsoft abandons it.

- Seems MS simply copied what others have recommended.

- Based on my own experience, installing the "Convenience Roll Up" update is a good solution when one installs Win 7 from scratch. But NOT when one already has installed A LOT OF updates.

- Will this be the final fix ? What if Windows Update breaks again as a result of new updates and new software (think: .NET). Because then WU will "complain" that the updates mentioned already have been installed.

No, I am NOT (too) impressed (for the time being).

The update ‘KB 947821’ is for System Update Readiness tool. I would suggest you to download and try to install it. You need to choose the correct download file according to the version of windows installed.

Note To install the correct version of System Update Readiness Tool, you must know what version of Windows that you are running.

You can download this update manually from the link:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

Once you have run this readiness tool successfully, reboot the computer and then click on check for updates one more time.

although J08Burns has been banned, I'm leaving his post there as it's sort of relative, even if it's nothing new.

(I have no objection if another Mod feels differently)
