Bethrezen
hi all I’m curious why is the Defraggler installer triggering the Ping.exe and trying to phone home.
Moderators mta Posted March 14, 2015 Moderators Share Posted March 14, 2015 what is your version? where was it downloaded from? maybe checking for an update? or maybe verifying license info? it may be the bundled Google ware? if downloaded from CNET, FileHippo etc, may be their download wrapper? Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last. Bethrezen
what is your version? the latest one where was it downloaded from? The piriform website maybe checking for an update? Possible but unlikely the updater shouldn’t need to trigger ping.exe the only purpose of the ping.exe is to check for a connection so I’m not sure why the installer would be calling it or maybe verifying license info? nope since its the free version it may be the bundled Google ware? if downloaded from CNET, FileHippo etc, may be their download wrapper? Maybe I do wish companies would stop bundling there apps with unwanted garbage if I wanted the tool bar I’d download it I guess at the end of the day its not a big issue just makes me a little suspicious when programs are doing things there not supposed to be because I found the Auslogics disk defrag app bundled with what my anti malware scanner identified as a Trojan horse the other day very disappointing to see reputable companies disseminating malware / PUPs (Potentially unwanted Programs)

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. What is the answer to the original question? The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-) Pssssst: ... It isn't really a cloud. Its a bunch of big, giant servers.
