It might slow down CCleaner a bit but it would be great to delete: Thumbs.db ... it gets big and annoying real fast. System and hidden. Rarely useful more than once. AlbumArt_*.jpg and AlbumArtSmall.jpg ... both system and hidden !!! Created by Wormdows Mediocre Plaguer (ehehehe) and rarely useful *.GID, and other helpfile "excreta", usually hidden. All temporary files created by the helpfile system are supposed to help search performance but they've never done anything for me The only problem I forsee is that you have to do a system-wide search to find them and I'm not really sure that's in the cards. I assume the .EXE would overwrite the old winapp2.ini with the newer one. My suggestion is thus ... Why not create a new file extension (perhaps .CCL). Double-clicking on it would merge it's content with winapp2.ini ... Found by setting "CCleaner" "Options" to "Run Cleaner when the Computer Starts" and then proceed to check that a "Restore" point has been formed in "System Restore" [WindowsME] that the System Restore program notifies you "System Restore cannot run untill you restart the computer. Please restart the Computer and then run System Restore again". Can the CCleaner "Options" be modified to enable "Run Cleaner at Computer Closing down" Love your program! krikke Posted August 23, 2005 Share Posted August 23, 2005 The directory: X:\Documents and Settings\*username*\Local Settings\Temp ... is never cleaned and can also be cleaned at every time (winRar uses it for temporary extraction of files when the user wants to run files directly out of a rar file f.e.)... I made a log off script which cleans that dir. every time I shut down my computer. Maybe this can be inserted as an option in CCleaner too? The only thing extra I would like to see is.. under the tools option a set of customisable buttons to open other systems programs..i.e. I would set one button to target Diskeeper and another to open AVG control centre maybe?.. you get the picture, it'd be good to have all of the clean-up tools in one place and less desktop icons. Even better would be a high-speed defragger like Diskeeper (www.diskeeper.com) built directly into CCleaner. What I would like to see more than anything else in CCleaner is the possibility to exclude temporary backup files when cleaning,, this means files with the extension .BAK and .OLD I've added a picture which illustrates what I mean.. Here is my two cents... - Custom Folders options should include file deletion by mask (ex: delete all *.log files from folder C:\anyfolder) or let you delete concrete files (something like Custom Files), support for delete subdirectories would be great too. By the way it seems that you can specify a root unit (C:/ D:/ etc) this is a problem, for example, 3D Studio Max, Fair Use Wizard, etc, creates .log files in root, and I want to delete it automatically in each boot, why CCleaner can't do that?. - Registry Search option, so you can find in the registry for one or multiple strings (separated by ";") and all the results will be displayed in a list that you can use to analyze/delete/backup all those registry entries (something like RegSeeker by Hover, in fact I'm currently using both CCleaner and RegSeeker just because I use a lot to clean my registry the registry search tool). Would like to see a Save Results to Text File/Reg File when scanning registry. Many times in the Scan Results I did not want to delete/fix entry but wanted to fix it myself, e.g., Fixing HKCR/Applications entries where the shell/open/command key is missing. Also misplaced Uninstall entries using C:\WINNT\rundll32.exe where it is actually under C:\WINNT\system\rundll32.exe. These entries I would like to fix correctly and then run CCleaner again. Having multiple pages to view in CCleaner, is tiring. A save to text file would be great savings. Not all errors in the Scan are deletable entries. I erase my data using the DoD standard (7-pass wipe method). So it would be nice to have everything thrown in the Bin so I can then erase it all. I'm not trying to hide anything, I just want data actually overwritten and unrecoverable, just picky that way. I have been using Eraser v5.7 for ages. Cheers. Most people have some data that they would rather not share with others - passwords, personal information, classified documents from work, financial records, self-written poems, the list can be continued forever. Perhaps you have saved some of this information on your computer where it is conveniently at your reach, but when the time comes to remove the data from your hard disk, things get a bit more complicated and maintaining your privacy is not as simple as it may have seemed at first. Your first thought may be that when you 'delete' the file, the data is gone. Not quite, when you delete a file, the operating system does not really remove the file from the disk; it only removes the reference of the file from the file system table. The file remains on the disk until another file is created over it, and even after that, it might be possible to recover data by studying the magnetic fields on the disk platter surface. Before the file is overwritten, anyone can easily retrieve it with a disk maintenance or an undelete utility. Maybe people have credit card numbers or SSNs or other sensitive data in the files that are deleted by CCleaner. I know that Eraser is open source. I know its not quite a quick copy and paste, but it is a start. Eraser is the best program when it comes to this stuff. I usually use CCleaner then do a free-space whipe. Identity theft is real, folks, so I think this is necessary. If you could add secure file deletion into CCleaner, it would be a Home Run IMHO. I need this since sometimes when I run CCleaner while some of my programs are running, it deletes their cache which causes them to misbehave. Thanks! I'd also like to have CCleaner find files hidden by rootkits and checkboxes next to the results so I can choose to delete those really hidden bits of crap I'd also like a registry snapshot so I can see whats happened since the last time I ran CCleaner and checkboxes to remove them. But hey... this is such a great little prog and I use it all the time so this isnt a complaint but these features would make it just that bit better.
