snelson87
I accidentally deleted over 2000 files from my documents folder. I was able to find them with recurva but every file has been renamed to something like "Dc1898" etc. How do I recover the original file names? Moderators Augeas Posted June 18, 2013 Moderators Share Posted June 18, 2013 These are names assigned by NTFS to the file when it is sent to the recycler. You are on XP? There is a file called INFO2 which, if you can find it, contains the names and paths of these files. The Dc1898 files should have a valid extension. I assume that the recycler has been emptied? As I'm not on XP I can't test this but possibly the INFO2 file is just cleaned up instead of being deleted. So you won't be able to use it to cross-reference your file names. There is no way I know to retrieve the file names.
snelson87
Yeah the computer is XP. Thats what I feared! INFO2 file is no where to be found, so I guess we are stuck with the renamed files. No big deal though ill just have to manually rename some of them and be more careful in the future. Other than that the software works great, just glad we were able to recover all those files. Thanks for your help!
