"boot cleanup" ccleaner file not found

I found this using Microsoft autoruns and msconfig.

 

I can't this "boot cleanup" option anywhere. It seems to be enabled and points to the C:\Program Files\CCleaner\Bin\CCleaner.exe but there is no such Bin directory.

 

What is this?

I found this using Microsoft autoruns and msconfig.

And you are right, the executable for CCleaner doesn't live under a Bin folder - no such thing. It lives in the CCleaner folder under Program Files (add x86 if you are 32bit)

 

And you'll have to explain "boot cleanup" further...

Could it be malware (e.g. a key-logger) that is masquerading as CCleaner ?

If you're trying to get CCleaner to run at startup, do that by checking the box in Options > Settings.

If it is something else, a bit more information might help figure out what is going on.

 

What is your operating system, and version of CCleaner?

If you run a windows OS, have you also run a Linux OS like Ubuntu on this machine, now or before?

(There are lots of Google hits for boot cleanup related to Linux.)

When you ask "What is this?" what are you asking about?

- Where did you see "this", whatever it is?

- What is the file name if you know?

- What is the file path if you know?

It lives in the CCleaner folder under Program Files (add x86 if you are 32bit)

Correction :-

On 32 bit XP there is only C:\Program Files\

There is no C:\Program Files (x86)\

 

On 64 bit Windows 7 there are both,

BUT only the 64 bit version of CCleaner64.exe can be expected to cleanup any 64 bit Application junk in addition to 32 bit junk.

and CCleaner64.exe belongs in

C:\Program Files\

 

If you ever use C:\Program Files (x86)\CCleaner.exe you may expect degraded performance.

I am using Windows 8 64-bit. Yea i found this exactly that dir as i wrote in my first post. Microsoft Autoruns also have a entry where the registry is missing a ccleaner.exe file in

 

"C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\CCleaner\Bin\CCleaner.exe"

 

I think it's the same one i mentioned in the first post. It says something about a Boot Cleanup. I don't find any CCleaner dir in the Local folder so i don't know how it got there in the first place. I tried to enable autostart in CCleaner but it didn't fix those missing entries. I've used both Malwarebytes and Microsoft AV but they didn't found any suspicious manlway trying to masquerade itself as CCleaner or anything. Regarding the last question. Task Manager says it's enabled, Autoruns however just points out they file isn't found.

Others know more about win 8, I shall step aside and wait till they ring in.

I bet that after other members have a chance to read your question someone will have better suggestions.
