Taskbar button

This is something that has been bugging me for a long time (about a year). Recently, I installed the latest version of Defraggler (v2.14). The first time (first few times ???) I used/opened any DF version a task bar button with the DF icon showed up. But after a while, when I (re-)open DF again then a task bar button shows up but the DF icon isn't displayed on that button. I don't what to make of it. Because it never happens when I open CCleaner !!! (See attachment)

Does, in this regard, DF uses (slightly) different program code than CC ??? Are the icons in DF stored in a different place than in CC ? (Work for the Piriform developers ??????)

On the other hand it occurs as well when I open e.g. "Windows Repair v1.9.14" (New version available at www.Tweaking.com) for the 4th (??), 5th (??), 6th (??) time in a row. This odd behaviour suggests that it's Win 7 related.

I tried to resolve this issue by cleaning the windows Icon cache with CC, but to no avail.

There could be another explanation: as far as I can tell, Win 7 doesn't seem to like the fact that my Task Bar is located vertically on the left hand side of my computer screen. At least three programs (in Win 7) fail to recognize the fact that the Task Bar is located in that spot of the screen.

Again: Is this DF related or Win 7 related ? Do other Win 7 (Win 8 ???) users share the same experience ?

So, are you saying that if you had the taskbar in the default, horizontal, bottom position, that your issue goes away ?

Just tried DF, and Snipping Tool with Win8 with a taskbar on the left and couldn't repeat your problem.

I tried a number of things but to no avail. Seems it´s the result of a combination of a number of programs. I moved the task bar to the 4 places the taskbar can be placed but the problem remains. From time to time the DF icon does show up but I can't discover any pattern in that (irregular) behaviour.

I would say that when I open an application, in >97% of the cases the appropriate icon shows up on the taskbar.

Even the icons in the system tray show don't always show up when I change the position of the task bar. It takes some time for these icon to show up again or don't show up at all. It seems the Win 7 program code is still somewhat "buggy".

As mentioned before, contrary to DF's icon, CC's icon always shows up on the taskbar. It seems the CC programcode is MUCH better than DF's programcode, in this regard. Work for Piriform's developers !!!!

Not only the Snipping tool and "CMD.exe", but also CLEANMEM "doesn't" like the taskbar being on the left hand side of the screen.

I found an answer for this problem. It had to do with MS Security & MS Defender. I finally and completely ditched MS Security Essentials (MSSE). MSSE has the nasty habit of starting a process ("MsMpeng.exe") that can't be killed even when the program is NOT in "Real Time Protection" mode. MSSE seems to be the slowest "kid on the block", the slowest AV program.

I still have the Malwarebytes AV software installed but that program is much more modest in behaviour. Glad I use the AVAST AV program instead.
