JimmyJoeBob
Windows XP SP3 160 Gigabyte NTFS Drive, 100 Gigabyte used. Using Free Version of Defraggler. Drive was 17% Fragmented. Defragging took 7.5 hours to perform. Is this normal for this size and age of drive? Defragging was successful and Defraggler reported the drive's health to be Good. Moderators Andavari Posted May 4, 2013 Moderators Share Posted May 4, 2013 Make sure you're using the newest version of Defraggler! Recently they released a new version that fixed a bug that was causing very slow defragmenting.
Moderators mta Posted May 5, 2013 Moderators Share Posted May 5, 2013 Although 7.5hrs does seem overly long, there may be some valid reasons. If the drive has never been defrag'd and has lots of temp files for example. Wouldn't hurt to run CCleaner first, if for no other reason than not to defrag files that don't need to be there. Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last.
