Defaggler Crashes on Installation

All versions since v2.10.424 crash on install.

v2.10.424 is the last version that will install on my machine.

All the installs crash when I attempt to uncheck the "include Google Chrome" box.

The versions I have tried and they all crash in the same place are:

2.11.560

2.12.628

2.13.670

I am running W7Pro 64/8g ram

I have no problems installing other software.

Any Ideal why this is happening or has anyone else had this problem?

I have not tried to install with the "include Google Chrome" because I do not want it on my machine.

I have no use for Google Chrome at this time,

Is Google Chrome is being forced upon us?

Thanks,

It is NOT possible for the Portable version to give you this same problem,

because there is no Google Chrome offer to be declined.

Your crash may be due to a Windows Registry error that has made inaccessible the key which determines whether you have recently declined the Chrome offer.

I just updated Adobe Shockwave to the latest version.

Adobe Shockwave has an Identical display with the same two

boxes to uncheck if one does not want Chrome.

I unchecked the Chrome boxes and Adobe Shockwave installed perfectly.

This tells me that the problem is with the Piriform install package.

Not my Machine. I will try the Portable Version soon.

Strange that no one that works for Pirifrom reads or cares about

its software problems here.

Thanks for trying to help.

Strange that no one that works for Pirifrom reads or cares about

its software problems here.

Why should they ?

Their priorities have to be the removal of bugs, the enhancement of products,

and "hand-holding" support including responses to problems within defined time-limits for those who pay for Professional support.

Actually they do read these posts.

Don't confuse a lack of response for a lack of concern.

They almost never respond to posts.

also this issue seem to be localized to your machine as 1000s of other have installed those versions fine on windows 8.

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

OK, here is what i would try. Just me. I don't see how it could cause harm, but someone else may jump in and say differently.

I would uninstall Defraggler. Restart twice. Install Ccleaner. Use Ccleaner to look for any leftovers from the now uninstalled Defraggler. Use the CCleaner registry checker to look for leftovers. Be careful, back up any registry deletions to a folder you can remember.

Restart. Reinstall Defraggler.

The first installation of Defraggler may have made a small change in the registry. The new installation of defraggler might hang when it gets to that. Maybe Ccleaner will remove it.

Fwiw, the piriform developers do read all these threads, but they stay busy writing code, and usually don't comment.

The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-)

Pssssst: ... It isn't really a cloud. Its a bunch of big, giant servers.

From what I've noticed Google offers in software are stored within the softwares very own registry area, i.e. under; Adobe, Piriform, etc., therefore what kroozer stated to do with an uninstall should effectively remove any possible corrupt Google key.

Also keep in mind some anti-virus can give grief with installers that bundle things like Google offers, etc., which is why Hazelnut's recommendation to install it Safe Mode could be a possible solution.

If all else fails use the portable version.
