micado
I've problems to recover my data from a WD30EFRX-68AX9N0 the filesize from the lost data is from 3MB up to 25GB. I run the scan and have pretty much results, but if i start to recover the process stops at exactly 50%, each file! So if i try to recover a 3MB file ive got 1,5MB in my output folder, 5GB ->2,5 and so on... i changed the output devices but it affect no change. OS: Win7 Pro 64bit HDD: WD30EFRX-68AX9N0 Filesystem: NTFS phys. sector size: 4096 Byte log. secor size: 512 Byte How can i recover the full datasize? thank you in advance
Moderators Nergal Posted February 7, 2013 Moderators Share Posted February 7, 2013 try running windows chkdsk program http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html if it says it needs to reboot to do it say yes I usually do both checkmarks maybe others don't though. ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Alan_B
If you right click a file and choose properties then Advanced there is an option to Compress the file. I think Windows Explorer list such files as having the originally uncompressed size, but the properties will show not only the uncompressed size of the file but also the much smaller "Size on Disk" which might be half the uncompressed size. Is it possible that what you are seeing is the "size on disk" and not the natural size when Windows expands it ?
micado
Is it possible that what you are seeing is the "size on disk" and not the natural size when Windows expands it ? No, i would be glad if it was the reason. But thanks for your help.. The explorer properties says i.e. for an 1532 MB file: 784.629.760 Bytes size, and 784.728.064 Bytes size on disk, which is equal 748.36 MB. In fact is my problem that recurva stop the recover process at 50%. Update: I found a curious situation. If i recover a 'desktop.ini' (86 Bytes) he completes 100%. I also can open the ini and see the information inside!, but if i try to recover a 3 MB mp3 or a 2 GB mkv i get only a 1.5 MB mp3 resp. 1 GB mkv file, which is not playable of course. micado
might he complete only 50% if i change the clustersize i.e. from 8096 to 4048? I try to understand why it doesent work for me.
Moderators Augeas Posted February 12, 2013 Moderators Share Posted February 12, 2013 What is the cluster size of the disk you are recovering from, and the disk you are recovering to? I don't think this is the problem, but it would be helpful to have this info.
micado
Both have 4096 bytes, but i dont know what the sectorsize was before i formated the HDD. It was just an idea
Alan_B
What caused the loss of the data you now wish to recover ? Both have 4096 bytes, but i dont know what the sectorsize was before i formated the HDD. It was just an idea Was that format part of what led to data loss, or your very recent action hoping to assist recovery ? N.B. 4096 byte sectors appear to be standard as sold according to http://www.idealo.co...b-wd30efrx.html
micado
What caused the loss of the data you now wish to recover ? The HDD was in my server and ive make a mistake and cut and paste some files, which were corrupet transmitted. So i tried to get the data back but ive make a 2nd mistake. here's the short version the partition table lost and i fromated the disk. -.- Now i try to get the deleted data back, which were lost by the cut and paste command. The Data which were untouched is recovered with testdisk successfully.
micado
Maybe it depends on the interface? It was plugged to a 3 Gb/s Sata 2 Port, after a while ic changed it to a 6 Gb/s Sata 3 Port, but which is downwards compatible.
Moderators Augeas Posted February 13, 2013 Moderators Share Posted February 13, 2013 What size does Recuva say the files are before the recovery, half or full? Are you running a normal scan or deep scan?
micado
What size does Recuva say the files are before the recovery, half or full? Are you running a normal scan or deep scan? Im running a deep scan, and recurva display the full size of the files, but stop the recovery process at ~50%
