Moderators hazelnut Posted July 31, 2012 Moderators Share Posted July 31, 2012 Microsoft is showing previews of what will replace Hotmail. basically it's Outlook.com. New and existing users of Hotmail can switch painlessly. Also you'll have a chance to claim your @Outlook.com address. Moderators Nergal Posted July 31, 2012 Moderators Share Posted July 31, 2012 I checked it out. . . More metro. My problem is I don't want to use a webbrowser for my eMail, I happen to like my Traditional Outlook ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Winapp2.ini
I don't use a client for my hotmail, since I have minimized my use of it over the last two years, so i quite like the new look. winapp2.ini additions thread winapp2.ini github
Moderators DennisD Posted July 31, 2012 Moderators Share Posted July 31, 2012 I have to say I've never used an email client, and never felt the need to really. Sure, Google changed the game when it introduced Gmail in 2004, but most of the browser-based services like Hotmail, Yahoo, and AOL have barely evolved. In fact, in the 16 years that I've had a Yahoo account, only the interface has occasionally changed. Change isn't always for the best. The way they've changed the interface and usability of GMail and Yahoo recently has definitely not been for the better (for me). They've just gone from working smoothly to that modern super duper "clunkiness" which seems to be par for the course these days. I'm just pleased that in GMail you can still elect to use "Basic HTML", which is basic, but it's super smooth and does exactly what I need it to do. Yahoo still have the option of using the "old" mail, and I remember a while back reading a discussion about Hotmail having plans to introduce a "Basic HTML" version because of the sheer weight of complaints about their change to ClunkyMail. Ahhh, progress.
Moderators hazelnut Posted July 31, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted July 31, 2012 Well I've signed myself in using my Windows LiveID and also made an alias account (their words not mine) as well for when I need it. Took me a while to find out where to sign out Changed a few privacy settings and overall it's okay for now. It'll give me another email option as well as my gmail. Moderators Nergal Posted July 31, 2012 Moderators Share Posted July 31, 2012 decided to Grab the name Nergal before anyone else did then I cleaned my Inbox. . . Microsoft has got jokes Wow, you've got a very clean inbox! (Did you know you can receive messages from other email accounts?) IMHO the Attach button on new email should go beyond just opening a file explorer and let me say I want to choose from my skydrive. Moderators rridgely Posted July 31, 2012 Moderators Share Posted July 31, 2012 I've been using Hotmail since they changed to live.com. I use the desktop client to check my email though. I hate Gmail, my university changed to Gmail for my .edu account and I hate the interface. I also can't get pop access working. Worked fine before the switch. I did grab the @outlook accounts I wanted. I like live better though, shorter

Moderators hazelnut Posted August 2, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted August 2, 2012 Skype will be built in apparently when it goes 'live' so no need to install it. Don't think this will be available to XP users though. Super Fast
My problem is I don't want to use a webbrowser for my eMail, I happen to like my Traditional Outlook Because Outlook style programs store your email data on your HDD, some people & businesses prefer web based access for the relative privacy from snoopers. Winapp2.ini
They'll probably integrate it with the current Mail tile, that syncs with the Windows Live Account you bind to the computer (if you choose to do so) winapp2.ini additions thread winapp2.ini github
