Task Bar Jump List?

Recommended Posts

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium and am having problems on booting up. Every time I press power, Windows starts to boot, gets to the coloured boxes, screen goes blank (not blue), reboots and a DOS like screen appears with options to start in 'safe mode or normally' then an error message says "Windows was not shut down properly". If allowed to boot normally, all is well. When I run CCleaner, it takes forever to work through something called Task Bar Jump Lists. What are Task Bar Jump Lists - I didn't even know I had them. Some programmes (mostly games) take over 15 minutes to launch. Are these issues related? I seem to have this problem recurring whenever I run a Windows update. I've got Sophos virus protection and have run Spybot Search & Destroy - nothing found. Be gentle, I am a rank amateur newby.

Hmmm. Firstly, I am amazed at how quickly someone replied. Thank you so much. When I right click items on my task bar items (Mozilla, Word & Outlook), no items appear other than the name of the program and 'unpin this program from the task bar' . The only other items on the task bar are an icon for Windows Explorer and the Windows Start gizmo but nothing happens when I right click those. It's wierd that CCleaner takes so long to clean the Task Bar Jump Lists. It's even wierder (and frustrating) that Windows won't start properly. I tried to get online help from Microsoft involving posting a plea for help on a forum but I had to join Windows Live ID and provide a stack of personal information just to post a message so I quit out. I guess I could have just made it all up but by then I figured I had paid several hundred dollars for an operating system that isn't and I was getting cranky.

Do you know how to boot into safe mode?

It would be an idea to do this, have a look at a couple of your pictures on the pc for example, and then shut down the computer. When you start the computer again do you still get the same ''Windows was not shut down normally''?

It would be good if you could manage to do a system file check.

How long have you had Sophos anti virus? Do you know how to disable it (just as a test) close the computer, reboot and see if you get the same Windows message.

As you are taking 15 minutes to open programs there is a definite problem either a software conflict or malware.

Post back with the replies and, depending on your replies, we may direct you to a helpful malware removal site.

Did you install a program lately ? Did these problems occur when you WIN 7 was updated ? If so, then try uninstalling the latest program ? Did you install Adobe's Flash latest version lately ? I know Flash can be ""a pain in the ass"" as well.

Since this error occurs when your PC is updated online, try a program called ""Windows Repair"" and (at least) tick that box ""Repair Windows Update"".
