New version of "Windows Repair" available. Version v2.80 now can repair the Volume Shadow Copy (VSS) as well. It turned out that the sequence in which the appropriate files are registered does matter. Now the program does register those files in the proper sequence. and that does fix a broken VSS.

It also turns out that VSS is also very (what would call) "brittle" and easily broken.

Yeah a lot more updates to come. I found it was better to do a few things per update, that way if any unforeseen problems happen I will know exactly what caused it. And with the huge list of things I want to add to the Windows Repair it will take some time to get them all done.

When I do a ton of things in one update it is too easy for me to make a simple coding mistake, and I would prefer to not do that lol

So I have sort of set my self on a release on monday or tuesday schedule. If I am able to get the time to get the update done during the week I release on one of the following mon or tues. Each update is improvements or new repairs. Since it is a repair tool I am always adding new things for more repairs. So with this program, updates are a good thing :-)

New version of "Windows Repair" (v2.10.4) available.

Some infections place "symbolic links" on the folders for Windows Defender & MS Security Essentials and then Windows can't find the appropriate files. The latest Windows Repair version now removes those symbolic links in repair #10 ("Remove Policies ........").

But the user can do a number of things to reduce the risk of a failed update (Windows Update is quite "brittle" and can easily be "broken"):

- Set Updates to "Notify before downloading".

- Don't do anything else with one's computer when Windows Update is busy updating.

Facebook says that it only detects a failed update, it doesn't repair it. I hope simply removing the corrupted file and re-installing the update/program will solve such a problem.

This.

I've lost count of people's machines I seen which have 'broken' because user decided it was taking too long so shut down the machine.

If everything else goes smoothly I don't think people know how long it takes for that Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool to run which takes some time. I always disliked the .NET Framework updates, they took forever to install.

- And that's IMO precisely a good reason why one should choose "Notify before downloading/installing". Then one can do the updating when one has time enough.

- When WU asks me to restart my laptop then I Always decline. WU just has to wait until I shut down my system. Then the system will take care of itself and I can do something else.

Windows Repair version v3.0.0 released. The old features are still available in the free version. The PRO version contains a number of extra features but then one needs to buy a license key. The PRO (paid for) version now has 2 extras:

- It allows the user to run a user defined script (*.bat, *.vbs) or run a *.reg file (to make changes to the registry) after all repairs have run.

- It allows the user to add extra locations (to be cleaned) to the build-in (in Windows itself) "Disk Clean Up" tool.

Have got the Pro version of the Windows Repair 3.

I like the tickbox option to enable the F8  key for safe mode  booting on Windows 8.1 (it works  :) )

It's hard to think of many other tools in which so many things are available for free.
