Question:

Why are the game entries within Winapp2.ini allocated under LangSecRef: 3021 = Applications ?

Can’t we create a new section “Games” like we are doing with the “Misc Fixes” ?

That can be done, but it wont have a nice little icon (something I believe has to be hardcoded into CCleaner)

I would love to move the games into a dedicated game section, but it'd look a little sloppy without the icon. I moved them all to Applications because at one point, a while back, they were scattered across everything.

Practicality vs "look and feel" is what I always look at.

Granted that there will be no little icon but finding all the games under one section is way better and sacrificing a small icon for practicality, I would do that gladly and sure that most users will as well.

Practical example:

League of Legends is it a Application or is it a Internet entry ? decisions, decisions.

But it is a game none the less. So put it under Game section.

Even helped you out ^_^

Can’t we create a new section “Games” like we are doing with the “Misc Fixes” ?

That brings up another point for me. Personally for removal of language files I refuse to write them under "Misc Fixes" because it seems very odd to me to put them under that area. I've been putting all of mine I make under "Section=Language Files" because it's clear and concise as to what type of cleaner it is.

Hav0c,

I believe 'HitManPro' in your 'Section=Games' example refers to the malware detection and removal program, not the PC Game.

i hate when programs add folders/files to my %UserProfile% directory that is what %AppData% is for. i would sugest using REMOVESELF instead of RECURSE so the empty folder is also removed.

have you looked into the '%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\ImplicitAppShortcuts' folder? every sandbox i create in sandboxie will create a folder with a shortcut in it named '[sandbox name] program name'. example '[temp] Firefox'. the only non sandboxie file i have seen is a Control Panel shortcut which windows will create when the control panel is run.

another suggestion for the Firefox/Mozilla section is to remove the 'Firefox' from entries with it in their name. example 'Firefox webappsstore.sqlite'. i realize there are multiple webappsstore.sqlite for the different mozilla programs but it looks weird when only a couple of the entries say Firefox when they are all firefox entries.

Adblock Plus Backups, Adblock Lite Backups and FlashGot are detected by DET_MOZILLA so they show even if you dont have them installed.

thanks

That's because when Mozilla released Firefox 15 they changed a registry key location which many cleaners used for detection and thus many cleaning entries wouldn't work anymore. By having DET_MOZILLA it "should work in any Firefox version."

Thanks for the correction.

If [HitManPro*] has been changed to Games then it sould be change back to LangSecRef=3024

Good point,

I am sure that Winapp2 will pick this up and do the necessary changes. Don’t think it is needed to repost all the Language entries just to show one change ?.

You can only use a name once. Two or more entries with the same name are not possible, even if they are in different sections. Adding Firefox or Thunderbird to the name is the best solution.

Adblock Plus Backups, Adblock Lite Backups and FlashGot are detected by DET_MOZILLA so they show even if you dont have them installed.

Because you can't use wildcards (*) in a DetectFile line, there is no other way to detect those add-ons.

Some of the names are a bit shy of explanation as to what they affect or are associated with. This may make it difficult for non-experts to decide whether they should use them.

Perhaps:

[urlclassifier3.sqlite*] = [Firefox/Pale Moon urlclassifier3.sqlite*]

[implicitAppShortcuts*] = [Windows QuickLaunch ImplicitAppShortcuts*]

I agree with JMO, aka siliconman01.

I believe that we can enhance utility of both winapp2.ini and CCleaner by encouraging Piriform to make the contents of the parameter sets more visible in CCleaner. I have made that suggestion on the Piriform forum here: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=36600

Thank you for your attention and I hope you share my concern,

Isn't that already dealt with via CCleaner's own "Compact databases" function in the Firefox section?

Think so, but he wants to delete it outright. Ultimately it's up to Winapp2.ini (the person) rather he wants it in his file or not, I trust his judgment.

you need to provide an actual detect (usually a registry key). Something that's always there

you need to provide an actual set of things to clean. If you need to, experiment (move things out of the folder see if it breaks the program, or it's ability to update).

What exactly is it you want this entry to achieve? What junk is left behind? Does the program keep a list of recently opened or saved files? Find out where those are stored

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

Yes. And it will get old very quickly with half written incomplete cleaning routines.
