Winapp2.ini additions

Winapp2.ini

Recommended Posts

New version of CCleaner just came out, when will Winapp2.ini? No hurries/worries, just asking. :D

I see absolutely no urgency.

The new version cleans more stuff with zero impact on what WinApp2.ini achieves,

and the only possible improvement to WinApp2.ini is to remove any odd items which are now cleaned by the new version.

Since 99% of all Winapp2.ini users are happy to accept that at least 90% of WinApp2.ini is useless bloat because they only have 10% of the applications installed,

an extra 1% on top of 90% is not a priority.

Nodles, can you tell us a bit about what scm logs are and when we might want/need them kept?

[Quicken Deluxe 2012 (logs)*]
LangSecRef=3021
DetectFile=%ProgramFiles%\Quicken\qw.exe
Default=False
Filekey1=%AppData%\Intuit\Quicken\Log\|*.txt
FileKey2=%AppData%\Intuit\Quicken\Log\|*.log
Filekey3=%CommonAppData%\Intuit\Quicken\Log\|*.log
Filekey4=%CommonAppData%\Intuit\Quicken\Log\installer|*.*|RECURSE
Excludekey1=FILE|%CommonAppData%\Intuit\Quicken\Log\installer\|*.htm

looks to me as if it is valid for all quicken years and builds not just 2012 deluxe. it Detects and cleans things for Quicken 2011 Home and Business)

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

More info about SCM: http://www.geoffchap.../events/wpp.htm and http://social.techne...a-9d713b7fa402/ and http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms685150%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

Though, I haven't had any issues with that entry (not yet atleast), cleaned a few PC's with it ticked (Win7).

And like always, as I guess you already know, you should always be (more) careful with Winapp2.ini, 'cause it's a custom config/file.

@saad - Weird, it looks fine in my editor (Notepad++) but looks completely wrong in regular notepad. I'll fix that.

@rick I'll fix that and release with the above fix as well. Oops.

edit: @saad - The problem seems to have been a completely invisible character that should have been a line break character in each line. Weird. It probably happened to everything modified in this update.

You're right the problem is with the modified entries.

The latest version of CCleaner has no support for RealPlayer 15.

Exactly. I have a custom WinApp2.ini with only the entry's that apply to the programs i have. I would never use the full WinApp2.ini. Wouldn't make sense. I use the full WinApp2.ini as a sort of reference library.

Does anyone know where CCleaner checks for installed programs? What part of the registry? I assume CCleaner does indeed look to see what is installed and offers to clean only what you have registered?

Probably need to make sure the formatting is correct by using good ole Windows Notepad because more advanced text viewers/editors can fool you into thinking everything is ok when it isn't, I've been there and done that before!
