Updated the Mozilla Firefox 'Adblock Backups' cleaner since Adblock Plus has started creating a new naming structure for some backups which I noticed within the last week such as: patterns-1.ini

I've tested it and it will cover all of the backups it creates; patterns-#.ini, patterns-backup.ini, etc.

Before update:
FileKey1=%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*\adblock*|patterns-backup*.ini

After update:
FileKey1=%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*\adblock*|patterns-*.ini

[Adblock Backups*]
LangSecRef=3026
SpecialDetect=DET_MOZILLA
Default=False
FileKey1=%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*\adblock*|patterns-*.ini

I'm hoping that patterns-1.ini was indeed a true backup because it hadn't updated in a long time on my system which had me thinking it was just another backup copy.

Not present on mine, only the patterns-backup files and patterns.ini, no patterns-1 etc

I have patterns-1, patterns-2, patterns-3 at %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*\adblockedge.

The modification works and removed the 3 files above, and patterns-backup1 that was also present.

Possibly patterns-1, patterns-2, and patterns-3 are a previously used file system.

patterns-3 was the latest; dated  February 18, 2014. patterns-1, the oldest, being November 12, 2013.

February 18, 2014 was the date I updated to the new release of Adblock Edge (a fork of Adblock Plus), and coincidentally the same date as patterns-3.

patterns-*.ini file system appears not utililized with the most recent update; possibly with Adblock Plus also.

I updated my filter subscriptions last night and again just now..

At this time, the patterns.ini is the only file being repeatedly updated.

patterns-backup1.ini will update with a browser restart.

[Windows Update Logs*]
LangSecRef=3025
Detect=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\WindowsUpdate
Default=False
FileKey1=%WinDir%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\Logs|*.*
FileKey2=%WinDir%\SoftwareDistribution|*.log

Added FileKey2. We could possibly remove FileKey1 as the files in there seem to regenerate to its original state.

Also, I am wondering on this entry:

[Windows ME*]
LangSecRef=3025
DetectFile=%WinDir%\WINFILE.EXE
Default=False
FileKey1=%SystemDrive%|SCANDISK.LOG
FileKey2=%WinDir%|*.tmp
FileKey3=%WinDir%\Application Data|dw.log
FileKey4=%WinDir%\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs|*.*
FileKey5=%WinDir%\APPLOG|*.LGC
FileKey6=%WinDir%\Windows Update Setup Files|*.*

CCleaner doesn't support Windows ME anymore, am I correct? Also why is their a spybot entry in their?

EDIT:

[Windows Log Files More*]

FileKey10=%WinDir%\Logs\DISM|*.log
FileKey11=%WinDir%\Logs\DPX|*.log

Added FileKey 9 - 12.

That Windows ME entry is actually from the original winapp2.ini, it's probably depreciated at this point in terms of use

Unsure if quelling the SoftwareDistribution logs reduces their size over time, I think they do but I haven't done extensive testing on the matter

Detect=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\WindowsUpdate
Default=False
FileKey1=%WinDir%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\Logs|*.*
FileKey2=%WinDir%\SoftwareDistribution|*.log

FileKey1 files regenerate to its original state so the entry is useless to have and I added FileKey 2 because I have an event log reporter in their for updates that was up to 500kb and now is regrowing back to 1kb.

While I was searching in that same directory, I noticed alot of cab files containing xml documents. These files are quiet useless, but I don't know how to create entries for them. Maybe someone can investigate. They are in almost every folder located in SoftwareDistribution.

FileKey 9 is already present in:

[Windows CBS Logs*]

LangSecRef=3025

Detect=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows

FileKey1=%WinDir%\Logs\CBS|cbs.log;*.cab

Regardless, couldn't you just use:

FileKey9=%WinDir%\Logs|*.log|RECURSE

... and eliminate FileKey10 through 12

Is that a Yes or No on the update I did? Just want to be clear on it.

Feature request / Diskussion:

an option to load the filepath from the registry e.g when false use the normal one xD

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\SteamPath

Because the most entries from steam are useless if you have it on an other driver.......

Uh, how much power over the program do you think a TEMPLATE AND COLLECTION OF OPTIONAL CLEANING RULES FOR OTHERS TO PICK AND CHOOSE FROM FOR THEIR OWN USE (emphasis not shouting ;) ) has?!?!?!?

But seriously, the idea is to tailor the file to "your" own use; this is an advanced feature for "advanced" users. If "you" can't create a notepad file and copy/paste the entries you need, a simple task, that even novice computer users should be able to do, then change the entries to fit your own needs, then "you" should be trying to use a winapp2 file.

Edited for grammerz

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

I think you have to do your work best as you can...

and to reduce the time to correct the normal way(file path) thats work for the most users but not all.

The ability to know what Winapp2.ini does will give the user the ability on how to tailor the file for his/her own pcs needs.

If I am not mistaken isn't it why trim.bat was created to norrow the entries down quite considerably to applications used on once system then just manually change even more ?

AdBlock Plus for Chrome is broken, look at the user comments on its extension download page.

well, this is the first time i ever use Chrome more than a week

currently using company laptop to do daily work

mainly using FF and Ad-Muncher+Hosts on my own laptop

so is it "Adblock" better than "Adblock Plus" for Chrome?

afaik, most people thought ABP not working because they don't know the option to disable "Allow some non-intrusive advertising"

I don't use Chrome, usually I only launch it if I want to log into a site without logging out, run a flash site (I keep flash disabled in Firefox) or check if a site is working outside of firefox. Adblock (chrome) uses the same filters as ABP for Firefox.

I don't see anything syntactically wrong with this at first glance, is the path correct?
