Can someone explain what effect checking and runnning these two entries will do to a system?

RegKey1=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts

[Cached Shell Extensions*]

It's safe to remove and Windows will re-make any keys in there on its own. It helps remove allot of rubbish one-off file extension keys.

Example:

If unpacking an icon package that also has MAC OS extensions for icons that Windows can't use those extensions end up going into FileExts and clogging the registry, after awhile allot of rubbish ends up in there.

[Cached Shell Extensions*]

LangSecRef=3025

Detect=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions

Default=False

RegKey1=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Cached

Safe to use, it cleans up the right-click area. You may or will notice after using it that a cursor busy will flash for several seconds.

Updated for CCleaner v3.28

Thanks for the updated Winapp2.ini, and thanks for fixing the variable for 'World of Warcraft Backup Files'.

I searched the forum for answers to clean further into the WTF folder tree; without luck.

I should've just asked.

* You have noted 'World of Warcraft Backup Files' modification in v3.28.130225 'What's new' text, but overlooked updating in Winapp2.ini v3.28.130225

I did need to edit paths slightly (should be Account, not Accounts).

Tested and works great now; finding 16 files.

- Edited FileKeys to .bak from .lua.bak to account for all .bak files

- Added .old files removal to FileKeys

- Edited Warning

Modified entry:

[World of Warcraft Backup Files*]
Section=Games
Detect=HKCU\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft
Default=False
Warning=This will delete all your World of Warcraft backup files. You won't be able to restore from them if something goes wrong.

FileKey2=%Public%\games\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\*|*.bak;*.old|RECURSE
FileKey3=%SystemDrive%\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\*|*.bak;*.old|RECURSE

:lol: For the record... My daughter is the gamer, not I.

On (some) Items With DetectOS and a Detect which is general, only the OS one is needed.

Example

[Notification Cache*]

DetectOS=6.2|

Section=Windows 8 Apps

Detect=HKCU\Software\

Default=False

FileKey1=%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Notifications|*.*|RECURSE

Struck out line unneeded, DetectOS detects.

Other Examples

[Windows 7/8 MUICache*]

[Windows 7/8 QuickLaunch*]

[Windows 7/8 ShellBags*]

[Windows 7/8 Transcoded Wallpaper Cache*]

[Windows 8 ScreenShot Index*]

[Windows 8 Search History*]

[Windows 8 Start Menu Cache*]

True enough that I am missing the \accounts\ portion, but it should world all the same.

Your edit does work as it should. My apologies.

I have games installed to G:\ and neglected to edt before testing.

Also not sure win8 app need detectOS (yet) as the detected directory will (read should) only appear in Windows 8 and those detect do seem to work on an "and" basis as when I uninstalled BingTravel it disappeared from my ccleaner even though I was still on detectOS-defined-OS.

May be my mistake, left over from before app specific Detects where added.

LOL except Store leave that as detectOS only as all Windows 8s will have that app

My thoughts on the DetectOS thing are, I imagine, that when CCleaner sees DetectOS=6.2, on say windows 7, it doesn't even bother looking at the rest of the entry. Probably some miniscule speed boost. I'd have to run tests to actually be sure.

You don't need FileKey1 and FileKey2. FileKey3 covers everything.
