df fails with code 0x80004004

Recommended Posts

I've installed defraggler on several machines. I liked it so much, I set it up on a schedule. On all of my computers it works like a champ. But on one computer it consistently fails. Here is the top and bottom of the debug file. Can anybody give me any hints to try to get this to work?

BTW, on the very same machine that fails the scheduled defrag, if I run the GUI to defrag it works like a champ. Perplexing. Is it a permissions problem? Any other ideas?

I have been receiving the same errors on a few of my computers. It runs fine with the GUI but the command-line version just aborts right away.

What it looks like when I call it from the command line.

MrRon, while you or your team is looking into this, could you simply tell us what status code 0x80004004 means? That may give me a clue on what to look into in my own environment.

DennisD, Thanks for the tip. I tried it out, by turning off the automatic updates. But unfortunately, I got the same results.

MrRon, from a Defraggler development perspective, what does status code 0x80004004 mean?

From my debug log then it looks like it is aborting in a specific file region.

[2010-10-28] [09:00:46.312] 015f0 1 CDefragmentation::MoveFileRegion#1271 Aborting at (4, 24418529)...

Is there anyway I can figure out what region 1271 represents? The Degfraggler GUI doesn't seem to list regions with their numbers (only "blocks").

Any updates on this?

Please read from two posts above you, if you want it fixed you need to realize that the developers are not magic and bug testing repairing takes time.

Hi Guys,

Please be patient as we need to repeat and investigate the issue in our testing lab.

Best regards

Romanoff

Sorry, I was not aware of how long I was supposed to wait before requesting an update on the status.

Hi,

I am also seeing this problem...

If I run df.exe c: /ts

it says:

Building File List (96%)

Building File List (97%)

Building File List (98%)

Building File List (99%)

Building File List (100%)

Building File List Complete

3% of the drive is fragmented

Defragmenting drive C:

Defrag Started

Defragmenting (0%)

Defrag Aborted

Finish

If I run df.exe c: /ts /QD

it doesn't crash, but it seems to get stuck at 0% for a long time (theres only 3% fragmentation)

I gave up after a few minutes and ran it as df.exe c: /QD

I waited for a bit, in that time I registered on this forum, clicked through the email to confirm, logged on and wrote this message, and has *just* moved onto 1%.

I ctrl-c to kill it after it reached 2% (about 10 seconds later) and started it on /ts /QD again at 2:13pm.

It made it to 1% at 2:17pm and finished the quick defrag at 2:21pm

I ran df.exe c: /ts it said 3% of the drive is fragmented (still), and then aborted.
