Newt 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2010 I notice that VLC Media Player 1.1.4 (on XP Home SP 3), does not appear to be cleaned. After running CCleaner 2.36.1233 with VLC Media Player selected, Media->Recent Media in the player still shows the recent files viewed before CCleaner was run. Any ideas? Thanks. DennisD 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2010 Hi Newt. A few of the guys are really into the CCleaner winapp2.ini in another thread, and if I've got this wrong, they'll get it right. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=29438 There appears to be two entries for VLC Player. [~DVDCSS] LangSecRef=3023 DetectFile=%ProgramFiles%\videolan\vlc\vlc.exe DetectFile=%ProgramFiles(x86)\videolan\vlc\vlc.exe Default=False Filekey1=%appdata%\dvdcss|*.*|REMOVESELF| and ;clears album art that VLC downloads [~VLC Media Player Album Art] LangSecRef=3023 DetectFile=%ProgramFiles%\videolan\vlc\vlc.exe DetectFile=%ProgramFiles(x86)%\videolan\vlc\vlc.exe Default=False FileKey1=%appdata%\vlc\art\artistalbum\|*.*|REMOVESELF| A blank winapp2.ini file in which you could place these entries is available at the bottom of this first post: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=1110&view=findpost&p=7010 Hope that helps. Newt 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2010 Thanks for your reply. Should CCleaner delete the "Recent Media" list in VLC Media Player when it is selected for cleaning, without requiring any changes to .ini files etc?
Nergal 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2010 Currently Ccleaner only cleans Album art (%appdata%\vlc\art\artistalbum\) without the aid of winapp2.ini (for more info on winapp2 see my signature) I'm sure the developers will take into consideration adding the cleaning of VLC recent media though I'm not sure where VLC stores it. norel 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2010 Newt, do you know if VLC's Recent Media list is dependent on XP's Recent Documents list? If it is, you can clean it in CCleaner with Windows>Advanced>User assist history. It clears Recent Documents and the list of recently opened programs found on the Start Menu. You can also enable/disable Recent Documents- Right-click Start>Properties>Customize>Advanced>Recent documents. This will only work if VLC's list depends on the Windows list. DennisD 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2010 I can't help you with that either as I don't use VLC. If you know where the Recent Media List is stored you could use CCleaners "Include" routine. http://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner/using-ccleaner/including-files-and-folders-for-cleaning
Nergal 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2010 So, sadly, this will not be possible as VLC stores it's recent media in the same ini file as your settings. vlc-qt-interface.ini [General] IsFirstRun=0 filedialog-path=C:\\WINDOWS\\Media [RecentsMRL] list=C:\\WINDOWS\\Media\\Windows XP Exclamation.wav, C:\\WINDOWS\\Media\\flourish.mid [FullScreen] pos=@Point(323 696) screen=@Rect(0 0 1024 768) [MainWindow] pl-dock-status=true adv-controls=0 bgSize=@Size(400 0) playlistSize=@Size(-1 -1) geometry=@ByteArray(\x1\xd9\xd0\xcb\0\x1\0\0\0\0\x1\x34\0\0\x1!\0\0\x2\xe6\0\0\x1\xa7\0\0\x1\x38\0\0\x1?\0\0\x2\xe2\0\0\x1\xa3\0\0\0\0\0\0)
Newt 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2010 Hi All, Thanks for clarifying the situation. It is not too important for me that the VLC list is cleaned (there is still an option in VLC to clear the list if required). I had just assumed than cleaning VLC meant cleaning the Recent Media list. Maybe we could have a notes section updated for each item within the user interface - describing it, as well as any specific details about what is or isn't cleaned? This would help reduce confusion. This would help reduce confusion. While that would be nice there are in the hundreds of entries that ccleaner cleans and thus that would be an arduous task. however I do agree that the VLC entry should be renamed as [VLC - Album Art Cache]
