Anonymous and Safe Web Surfing

Arovax

Recommended Posts

Interesting post. First you should use a good browser such as Mozilla Firefox and make your computer secure. A good idea might be to disable things which you might not need such as Java, JavaScript, ActiveX, etc, etc.

Then you can look into privacy and anonymity.

There are programs and services which can achive this.

A common method is to use a proxy server which you configure your webbrowser to use, this makes all the request/data go through the proxy server instead of directly from you through the server.

Another thing that might be a good idea is to connect to servers via SSL, this ensures that the server is really who it claims to be, and it also provides encryption and makes so people on the network cant sniff your packets to read the data that is being transmitted. Not all servers allow SSL connections.

Other services are sites such as http://www.anonymizer.com

But that sites require paying for most of the services, so I wonder how anonymous it is then? :P

Eitherway, it provides limited "private surfing" from their site.

There are also software such as Freenet, http://freenet.sourceforge.net/

Also there are FreeHaven, http://freehaven.net/

The EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) and the Naval Research Lab (Military) sponsors the Tor project which uses "onion routing". http://tor.eff.org/

You might also want to read couple articles to learn more on Wikipedia.

How come your name is Arovax and you have links to many Arovax websites?

Is it because you are a fanboy or because you're actually part of the company?

In case you're part of a company related to security, you should probably know about anonymity, security, privacy, etc.

Eitherway, a good resource: http://www.anonymous-p2p.org/

You might also be interested in file shredders, firewalls, cryptography, etc.

I usually dont use things for anonymous surfing because it usually comes at the expensive of slower or limited surfing.

Eldmannen have you not seen the other posts by arovax? He/She obviously works for the company that makes the programs. They come to this forum to promote their products and to get feedback about them(something more companies should be doing). The point of his topic was not really to learn more about security but to see what programs we use and to see what we would like in future programs. Sometimes I don't think you actually read what other people's posts. :P

Edit:

But I should mention that you gave a very good explenation with links to some interesting programs. Some of which I hadn't seen before. So thanks at least for that. :D

Rridgely, you are completely right, as always ;)

Thing is we are just studying the demand in this field. It is quite possible that soon we will release a cheap and reliable solution for anonymous surfing and crypting during data transfer.

So any of you who have some ideas and would like to share them are welcome to write here how you see such an application and how you would like it to operate.

Thank you
