Do you recommend I click and use some of the advanced options, and which one do you recommend to use as I clean up. And without usind the advanced option do u clean up cache files on my computer. This comes with most XP Pro and Windows 2000 installations and is generally only used by web developers or designers. Every time someone requests a page it gets logged to a text file. Unless the computer is a web server, these are generally not needed, and may be safely deleted. This option will safely delete these files. Menu Order Cache The Start menu allows you to set a custom order to the programs listed, although there's no option to sort all folders by name. Selecting this option removes any custom ordering from the Start menu. Tray Notifications Cache In Windows XP the System Tray (the set of icons next to the clock in the bottom-right corner) orders and hides items automatically for you. Whilst this is useful, it records a list of every program that has been run from the tray. This option clears the list of previous programs and removes any custom display/hide options. (Warning: This won't have any affect until you manually restart the explorer process from the Task Manager.) Window Size/Location Cache Windows Explorer stores the view formatting and ordering settings for each folder on your system. After some time, this can contain a large amount of redundant data and may even slow down browsing for files on your system. Selecting this option will clear this data and reset the Windows Explorer display settings to their default option. User Assist History The start menu on Windows XP displays a list of the most recently run programs. Selecting this option removes any custom ordering from the Start menu. the above is not clear to me, sorry, where do I go for that... you might just want to left the IIS Log Files checkbox checked... basically log files are just files with a list of actions a particular application performed... these files are useless unless you want to do debugging etc... Restart the explorer is it restarting the computer....? is all the little icons you get beside the system clock... in WinXP, Windows remember the setting of these icons... whether they are set to 'Always hide', 'Always show' etc... you can view these by right clicking on the task bar and select properties... you need to terminate Windows Explorer manually... bring up the task manager and under 'Processes' tab, search for 'explorer.exe' and end it... then go to File -> New Task (Run...) and enter explorer.exe to bring up the explorer again... For the above, where do i go for clearing the caches, again where do i go for selecting this option.... i not sure where can you find this... but folders have their own settings... like whether files and folders are view as Icons, List etc... and when you change these setting, Windows have to save it, taking up spaces... so cleaning will reset them to their original state... hope all these does help... --==aGumon==-- Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have: Only delete files in temp files older than 48 hours. Hide wanring messages Close program after cleaning show promt to back up registry issues show detailed log of Internet Explorer Temp files Where are the choices to check tray notification cache, etc....? Moderators Andavari Posted October 21, 2005 Moderators Share Posted October 21, 2005 One of those Advanced cleaner settings removes the Quick Launch bar without the ability to have it stay re-enabled after cleaning.
