Above is an entry from winapp2.ini for Downloaded Installations. In Windows XP, there are two folders within the C:\WINDOWS directory that have similar names.

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations

- Installed .msi files (Windows Installer Packages) downloaded from the Internet as Updates for installed programs

- The .msi files are arranged in folders by CLSID (Class Identifier) number.

- What effect would deleting this file's contents have? Will these programs fail to update properly in the future if you delete these .msi files?

Downloaded .msi Files

{0F5BF410-4D79-4DBE-AF54-C3271D47D4BD} (Microsoft Antispyware)

{15C81BF0-2378-457F-84D4-77387692FF47} (Microsoft Antispyware)

{26DFC456-AA4C-4DA8-A806-2B9490312CD8} (B.I.S.S. Hosts Manager) [bluetack Hosts Manager]

{30D8B6AE-57E3-4F3D-85B6-59BEB24DAD42} (PKZIP for Windows 8.0)? [not installed]

{78CB0701-6520-4FAE-99CE-20DE50BEF25C} (Microsoft Antispyware)

{868A58CD-3761-4EEF-802C-DF7104574CE7} (Highmat Extension to Microsoft Windows XP CD Writing Wizard)

{3587B1CB-CCD3-43BF-91CD-DB42A70494B8} (Microsoft Antispyware)

{A3D02521-EF72-4B99-8BDF-38D198018159} (B.I.S.S. Hosts Manager) [bluetack Hosts Manager]

{DF2E8A41-7E98-427D-9582-7D2EAF44F827} (Microsoft Antispyware)

- I am extremely hesitant to erase anything in Downloaded Installations, because I do not know what effect it will have on my installed programs -- both now and when I try to update them in the future.

- PKZIP has never been installed on my computer, so I do not know why it shows up here. Perhaps that one can be deleted, but I'm not sure of the others.

- On the other hand, if all can be safely deleted without detrimental effect to my installed programs (Microsoft Antispyware, B.I.S.S. Hosts Manager, CD Writing Wizard), then I can recover 40MB of disk space.

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files

- Installed ActiveX controls downloaded from the Internet

- Deleting this file's contents in Downloaded Program Files could be potentially disastrous because it would wipe out all your ActiveX controls!

Windows 10 (x64). Android 11. CCleaner Pro 6.02.9938.

Why was this not discussed?

Is it safe to delete all the stuff in downloaded installations? My files have a bunch of setup files and license.txt files, etc. I have over 200MB in my downloaded installations.

This has been discussed before in other threads. It turned out to be quite a debate about the effects of that folder. I cannot confirm either way. I personally haven't experienced any problems, but I think that it depends on certain programs.

Windows Pro Media 8.1 x64  |  8GB Ram  |  500G HDD 7200 RPM  |  All  that I know about my graphics is that it's Intel  :)

I had problems with it, and will never use it again.

My problem was when Microsoft Windows Live Safety Center wouldn't uninstall do to one or more files being deleted out of the Downloaded Installations folder. I then manually uninstalled Windows Live Safety Center and then visited the Windows Live Safety Center website again, allowed it to fully load, etc., and ran the Downloaded Installations remover again to verify it was the culprit, and it was. I even PM'd MrG stating it should be removed from winapp2.ini - however it's still there.
