3 days and counting, avira in big server trouble.

Part of the update issue I suppose is people constantly trying to manually invoke the updates. If they'd instead let the antivirus auto-update itself once or however many times per day it performs an auto-update that would reduce requests to the server. Just a thought.

Yep. 02 October 09 downloaded the update manually. Later same day, went about updating a couple of other computers which were set to auto-update, and behold, they were already up to date.

The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-)

Pssssst: ... It isn't really a cloud. Its a bunch of big, giant servers.

Early in the morning I usually can overcome any server overload. It's 6am here and I cannot update.

I've aborted the update. Lots of unhappy people at your link Firery.

Yes I know it is free and hugely popular, but folk are starting to switch to another av because of this constant issue.

Tried again... still no joy. :(

Will try again later :)

Reports on the avira forum show it is a 5mb update this time that is causing the issue.

Also it seems Avira is using IVP6 addresses for the update which most xp users don't have.

See a post about that here

yeak i gotta move to australia...

btw...manual update from their site...

look

If you use a download manager and pause the download, the file can become corrupted since it's updated often.

It has been reported that problems installing happen without a download manager.

You can check here for the latest VDF Update Version with a link for download and QA Realtime Status.

Look in the lower right hand corner of the page. :)

Just to throw my two penneth in with no positive information at all.

I've tried Avira I think on three separate occasions over the last three years, just out of curiosity (Avast was working fine), and on each occasion I wasn't able to update the virus definitions at all. And that was over a 3 to 4 day time span each time.

It might be more serious at the moment, but from my own experience, it certainly isn't something new with Avira. They could learn something from the flawless updating of Avast here I think.

avira is pushing free customers to avast...best ad for avast=thanks to avira.

That and possibly they could claim they have the best free av detection with 2 week old definitions.

Ok, not so funny to make fun of the old defs people are forced to keep using since they can't update.

Hint: Avast
