CommandBurner

URL: http://www.commandburner.com/

CommandBurner is 100% CLEAN, it doesn't install any adware, spyware, or viruses!

Overview:

CommandBurner is a free CD/DVD burning software utility

that can be executed from the command line, as well as

through a simple interface.

CommandBurner can be executed from the command line,

or through any method that passes command line arguments.

Simple options allow you to burn, erase, load and eject CDs

and DVDs.

This makes CommandBurner suitable for integration with

programs, scripts and batch files. We imagine that

CommandBurner would be useful for tasks such as scripting

backups to CD/DVD, but feel free to find other reasons to

use it!

For added convenience, CommandBurner can also be opened

in console mode, allowing the user to perform the same

CD/DVD burning operations using a simple point-and-click

interface.

If you make system backups with for instance a batch file as I do then this program will allow for the backup to be automated when burning to a CD or DVD!

Microsoft Security Updates in the .ISO DVD image format

Allows the downloading of one month, or several months of security updates which can be burned to individual CD-R's or CD-RW's using a freeware or commercial CD burning application that supports the .ISO CD image format. They can be used to install the updates on multiple systems or kept for archiving purposes in the event of a Windows re-install later on.

Thanks for finding this. It would be great if Microsoft actually had this catalogued by OS. I see this goes back to Janary 2006.

Other than looking at the Uninstall files in the Windows (or Winnt) directory), and knowing about major service pack updates, is there any way we can know every update that should be installed prior to January, 2006?

Why can't Microsoft just make it easy and say, "This ISO file contains every update for Windows XXXX, build XXXX", with instructions for finding what build or version your original OS disk is. The would eliminate so many problems with security holes when computer users have to reload their operating systems and then have to use the internet to connect to MS again for immediate updates. I'm sure that novice users don't even have a firewall or AV program loaded when they first do this. This doesn't even take into account those who use older OS that MS doesn't support anymore.

Microsoft has pushed back the date for WXP service pack 3 at once or twice. Right now they are saying that "SP3 for Windows XP Professional (and Home) is currently planned for 1H CY2008. This date is preliminary." Found at:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle/servicepacks.mspx

It is frustrating, but I am going to wait for SP3, if there is no action by the middle of 2008 I'll download all that stuff. Takes a long time.

I know Site Advisor gets it wrong sometimes, but is still worth being cautious , it has 75 user reviews none good.

As a competitive free cleaner "Cleanup" is quite good, though not as many customizable options.

Cleanup: http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/index.html

Ever want to run a UNIX prompt in windows? (using it for my Solaris training)

Cygwin: http://cygwin.com/

The Cygwin tools are ports of the popular GNU development tools for Microsoft Windows. They run thanks to the Cygwin library which provides the UNIX system calls and environment these programs expect. With these tools installed, it is possible to write Win32 console or GUI applications that make use of the standard Microsoft Win32 API and/or the Cygwin API. As a result, it is possible to easily port many significant Unix programs without the need for extensive changes to the source code. This includes configuring and building most of the available GNU software (including the packages included with the Cygwin development tools themselves). Even if the development tools are of little to no use to you, you may have interest in the many standard Unix utilities provided with the package. They can be used both from the bash shell (provided) or from the standard Windows command shell.

Can't remember if its listed here but Daemon Tools is a great tool for mounting an ISO.

Daemon Tools: http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/announcements.php

DAEMON Tools is a virtual cd/dvd-rom emulator. It is able to emulate nearly all known copy protections on the market today. !! THIS VERSION SUPPORTS 32BIT OS (Windows XP, Windows2003, Windows 2000, VISTA) ONLY !!

There is also a 64bit version

<-- REMEMBER TO DE-SELECT THIS OPTION DURING INSTALL --->

This is the only reason Site Advisor gives this site a RED rating

This version has an option to install client-side software applications (DAEMON Tools Searchbar and Save Now) that deliver a limited number of behaviorally targeted and contextually relevant coupons, ads and comparative shopping results directly to consumers desktops - without compromising the privacy, security or smooth functioning of peoples computers! No URL hijacking or redirects! In order to support FREE distribution of DAEMON Tools we highly encourage you at least to try out this optional software! (you can remove it anytime later when you wish: via Control Panel-> Add/Remove Programs)

Sick of SPAM (not the canned stuff)?

Popfile: http://popfile.sourceforge.net/

POPFile is an automatic mail classification tool. Once properly set up and trained, it will scan all email as it arrives and classify it based on your training. You can give it a simple job, like separating out junk e-mail, or a complicated one-like filing mail into a dozen folders. Think of it as a personal assistant for your inbox.

RAM boosters are of course complete nonsense and will at best do little to improve your systems performance and at worst damage performance.

Just don't try to load a large .wav file such as the full length of a CD, I tried that and it just went into some long period of doing nothing whilst creating a 1.1 GB .tmp file. It is however good for "portable" editing, etc., when one can't install a Wave Editor on a system.

Did anyone notice if this thread was locked? If it was I probably did it by mistake. :(

I didn't notice that at all. I don't really visit this thread that much because it has too much jibba-jabba in it when it needs to focus solely on freeware software because the chatting in between the freeware links is starting to make it difficult to find the freeware (remember the same thing happened before too).
