So it's strictly only if you're going to use IE. It has no effect on FF or Opera.

ClearType works with Opera and Firefox, but you can't use the online link to tune it, unless you use Internet Explorer.

 

I think that's what your unhappy smiley means. Any tuning you do, will still be there when you reopen Opera or Firefox.
