If you are not, i think you should leave it on. I mean (most) problems can be fixed without using SR. Not sure about the performance thing, but i guess that disabling it frees up some system recources. Also frees up some disk space. No, System Restore may be the only chance you have to recover from a problem before taking more drastic steps like a "System Recovery" or a complete System reinstall. The only thing you might gain is the use of 1 GB of disk space. Make sure you have you basic maintenance procedures taken care of first. Moderators Andavari Posted April 20, 2008 Moderators Share Posted April 20, 2008 I can fix most of the computer problems I have, however System Restore is a big aid in fixing stuff that isn't easy. It should however be used in conjunction with ERUNT because sometimes all that's needed is to restore an ERUNT registry backup to be up and running - use System Restore for more serious problems. WHAT A WASTE haha That's because you were very likely unaware of the fact that you can limit the amount of disk space SR occupies: Control Panel > System > System Restore > Settings I second/third Davey and Andavari: leave it enabled. craigathus Posted April 20, 2008 Share Posted April 20, 2008 I have System Restore "disabled" because on more than 1 occasion it has failed me!...could not roll back to a "Windows" created system restore point...whatever! The only time I use it, is If I choose to make a "manual" restore point for some reason. hotdoge3 Posted April 20, 2008 Share Posted April 20, 2008 Its save my PC loots of times if I turn it off it to free up disk space next I turn it on. just the other day PC not boot good & lock up System Restore fix it if you check it tell you the change like rename Outpost news to Outpost news 2 so you can see that Outpost Antivirus is the mess up if it do this next, I take it off.System Restore can get big like 5 GB min is 400mb if you dont have it say can not make free up to make room. I've covered all those basses before, with regards to "Issues" why "System Restore" is not able to roll back to a "Windows" generated restore "Check" point. I have gone step by step trying to make sure every thing is set right , however as I said' I'm no expert and I might be over looking or missing something. This is not the only machine that I've had problems with regarding "System Restore". My old "Windows ME" machine was never able to roll back to a "Windows" generated restore point.
