There is a high possibility that your PC's Firewall security settings may become exploited by malicious websites without your knowledge. This could easily lead to the following attacks on your PC's hard drive:

- Unwanted Virus Downloads

- Uncontrollable Trojan horse attacks

- The running of unwanted script programs

- The installation of malicious spyware

If your PC is not protected correctly then these attacks could allow hackers to track your movements across the Internet. It also means that your information, ranging from passwords to credit card numbers, can be stored by sites that you visit. A successful hacker could examine this information and extract it, setting the stage for identity theft, credit card fraud, or worse.

Some unknown or untrusted websites use script programs to change your home page, modify your web history, display advertisements, disable your back button, or redirect you to different websites without your consent. Such scripts have also been recently used by Russian hackers to silently install viruses on end-user's computers.

One way to protect your PC is to download this new FIREWALL software program.

These are pretty obvious to more experienced web user, but they obviously still fool the less knowledgeable.

Don't be fooled, and to stop them, block them in your email settings.

I use an app that can show all and delete selected emails waiting to come through from my server.

Been using Palmail for ages now but there are similar apps around.

Palmail hasn't been developed for a while but it works fine on XP, Vista and server 2003 and is a standalone.

It is quite good plus it permits easy selective deleting email messages.

Hi

Thanks for the link. I downloaded it to give it a try.

When the program alerts you to a new mail, how do you go about deleteing it via palmail? I clicked on the "mark for deleteing/unmark" and nothing happened. I was still able to download it via my email client..

Have I missed something obvious or am I expecting to much of this program?

Just adding my two cents, I use gmail..(google mail). I have never had a problem since I started using it, and I do NOT have to download anything to my system.

And that's the bottom line, 'cause PapaSmurf says so!

Right click each unwanted email and mark for deletion and then hit the yellow telephone in the toolbar below file, top left of the gui.

Hitting the yellow telephone makes Palmail recheck the servers end and deleting any emails marked as such.

If there's a group of emails that need to be highlighted/marked for deletion you can left or right click in an empty space and drag the cursor.

I've just deleted the above post about yet another dodgy email scam, because I had second thoughts about it being a bit risque to be in the open forum.

Trouble is, it's absolutely hilarious, and anyone falling for it would be really sad.

But you never know, there just might be someone who would be...how should I put it...anatomically challenged, and may click the link.

I can't type for laughing, so I'm gonna post it, and let the mods have the awful decision of deleting or not.

Both of these received week or so ago.

Theyre getting better at it - anyone remember the I love you malware? Social engineering works pretty well.

I remember that one!

I also remember someone posting on a Microsoft forum (I think it was MSN) with the perfect counter to the malware when he stated something like "nobody loves you, so don't open the email."

Hi all, I just received a similar email trying to sell me 'Error Nuker'. The contact name was "theinterex.com" but the address is the same one that I have seen for numerous offers. 6965 El Camino Real 105-698 La Costa, CA 92009.

I can't imagine anyone on this site being taken in but no doubt many out there will.

Have fun

Hi nedof, I've seen that address before, but thankfully I'm only getting these things in Yahoo mail, so fingers crossed Gmail and Hotmail stay spam free as they are at the moment.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Nedof, if that's the actual link from your email, can you edit your post and delete the link. Inexperienced or new users may click on that, and sometimes these things can lead to something nasty.

No worries, as you weren't to know, and a mod will remove it if they see it first.

I don't know which email you use, but when you have spam from a definite address, you can usually block it from within your email settings.

Have a look, and if you need any advice, post back.
