swisscheez
Howdy - I love to test out new tools and eagerly installed Defraggler. The install ran with out error and the gui started up just fine. My drives were all listed but when I started the analyze process, the computer seemed to freeze up. I let it run for 30+ minutes but when there was no further increase in % complete, I hit stop. That ran for 30+ minutes, but never actually stopped, so I closed the app using the x button. Closing the application seemed to leave a process hanging on the machine that required a hard reboot to stop. I reran after a clean boot and the same thing happened. I'm running windows xp media center edition with, I think, all the latest service packs and critical updates. Thanks for what appears to be a great tool
OblivionStalker
On my PC the scanning stopped at 48%. I waited 10 minutes and was still at 48%. I quit the software, but my PC still sounded like it is being defragmenting. I tried to restart it via Windows (XP), but no luck. I had to press the reset button on my PC. DJMusic
After using Defraggler for 2 days without any problems, it gave me a black screen Too bad, because it's a great little program. Now I have to use Auslogics again
Whiteshark
Perhaps the drive to be defragmented contains some huge files? I'm making some tests on an external drive i use for save ghost images of my system. While i'm writing this post, Defraggler is defragging a partition containing an image sized about 3 GB, and it seems currently stopped at 41% since about 10 minutes. Not frozen, i can clearly hear the HD still working... Guide in italiano per CCleaner - Recuva - Defraggler - Speccy
TheTOM_SK
I also thought, that it frozed a few times, so I hit reset, but it did not, it just needs time to optimize files on the HDD, because it does not only defragment them, it also puts them in a line from the beginning of HDD. So it is not the fastest one, but it does better job than Auslogics, which I used for a few months and is obviously weaker, so just give it a time, get a coffee and let it finish, you will surprised, how fast it is everything gona be afterwards. Ramzy
I have experienced 'freezing' issues when defragging very large files (4GB+). My computer was essentially frozen until Defraggler finished defragging the file in question, even though i was defragging a file on a completely different hard-drive from my OS (NOT a partition). Maybe the Piriform guys will look into some priority tweaks in the next release.
Guest MrRon
Can you describe what you mean by 'Freezing' e.g. did the progress indicator stop spinning? MrRon
Whiteshark
Can you describe what you mean by 'Freezing' e.g. did the progress indicator stop spinning? MrRon Since we are in this thread, i've noticed that Defraggler shows red-fragmented and blue-defragmented squares. Then there are some squares having a different color, violet or more light blue, that indicate, i suppose, the clusters being read/examined/defragmented/moved (don't know). That color is too much similar to blue, hard to see the difference. Changing that color would be not only an "aesthetical" improvement, also may help users to notice that Defraggler is still working, and not frozen or stopped. jwish
I'm having the same issue. When I run a full disk defrag it hangs at 94%. When I close Defraggler the process keeps running and it's using 50% of my processor. I can't stop the process and can't shut down without forcing a shutdown by holding down the power button. I'm running Vista.
