For that price you could get a dell one with a monitor and a better processor:

http://www.dell.com/content/products/featu...;l=en&s=dhs

For $1,799 you would get just about everything the same but you would get a faster processor, 19in lcd, and it would be coming from dell a major company where you could get a warranty if you were to leave where your staying anytime soon.

With HP you could get a better computer for about the same price if you customize it here(they are offering free 2gig upgrades and 19in monitor upgrades):

http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping...e_components.do

You would actually get a better deal then dell.

$1,589.99

HP 19-inch LCD Wide Flat Panel Monitor

Intel® Core 2 Duo processor E6700 (2.66GHz)

Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)

FREE UPGRADE! 2GB DDR2-667MHz dual channel SDRAM (2x1024)

640MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS, 2 DVI, TV-Out

320GB 7200 rpm SATA hard drive

LightScribe 16X DVD+/-R/RW SuperMulti drive

15-in-1 memory card reader, 3 USB, 1394, audio

Whoa dude, don't do it. That's a huge waste of money - that computer isn't worth half the price they want.

Edit: Look at this:

Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16811129024

Power Supply - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16817153028

Motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813128012

Processor - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819115003

Memory - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820146565

Hard Drive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822148140

Video Card - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814130038

Optical Drive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16827106073

Monitor - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16824009102

1326.78$ USD, that plus the cost of shipping....

If you need speakers/kb/mouse:

Speakers - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16836119105

Keyboard/Mouse - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16823126180

1504.76$ without shipping.... ..to my house it's $1,557.84.

I didn't even try to find the deals on those products and I spent almost five hundred dollars less than you, and it includes a 22" LCD/Speakers/Kb/Mouse, and most of all a decent PSU. The one that comes with a case is horrible.

I'd also recommend thinking whether to start using Vista on this computer or not. I bought pretty powerful computer recently, with Core Duo 2 6600 @ 3.2 mHz (overclocked on site), 2 Gb DDR2, 500 Gb Samsung Spinpoint, etc. but instead of Vista, I took trusty old XP instead. Mainly because of Vista's compatibility problems with many software and hardware, but also because it really takes a lot of RAM. That shop even recommended XP instead for this set.

Of course, it's your choice.

Well stay with windows XP until Vista has sp1 out

Why? Vista is a crippled operating system, SP1 or not. It's defective by design. Vista users seeking all the incompatibility and sluggishness should go download an alpha release of a Linux distro and put KDE on it (though to be honest KDE is getting faster).

Not sure how this turned into a test-drive of Linux, but let me give you the 101: It's an Operating System, and does require installation. It's not like Windows in a lot of senses, and can be a little odd to get used to (though windows managers like XFCE, GNOME, and KDE are very user-friendly).
