BrownSugar
Even when you got decent up-to-date AV, you should sometimes use i.e. some online virus scanners, to be sure that your real-time protection hasn't let anything through... I've thought about that in case of an emergency like a suspected infection. However, I have reservations about using online scanners just to check the disk or partition to see if my current AV program is working correctly. Using an online scanner means opening a port so that your whole computer is exposed. I'm sure that the online scanners are maintained by the most reputable vendors, but how can one be sure that along with the scanning, sensitive files aren't being uploaded without our knowledge?
