I use ccleaner free in basic mode. I am however concerned that ccleaner is trying to do too much. Most people want a basic thorough cleaner and thats it ! I think ccleaner belongs to the stable of "Jack of all Trades and Master of none" There is a web browser out there (not ccleaner related) that is always adding features that I personally would never use , Ccleaner IMO is becoming like that.

I use both the registry cleaner and the general cleaner at the sametime. It cannot be an update issue because I have a few Windows 10 machines and if I don't use ccleaner the correct icon (as at shutdown) is displayed when I next use the machine. A few days ago when clearing Internet Explorer in CCleaner there was a strong possibility of it being in the list of temporary internet files because I saw an entry for sunny.png . Not that I use Internet Explorer, just sometimes there are a few files in there to clean. I am now wondering if its the Windows Explorer Thumbnail cache option. I will uncheck that option and see what happens.

This must appear a very trivial question but i feel it worth asking. After using CCleaner, on reboot the "news and interests" icon on the taskbar reverts to a generic icon until I connect with the internet. If i do not use CCleaner the icon for sunny, cloudy icons etc do appear after rebooting so there is some box I am checking in CCleaner that I could perhaps leave unchecked. Anyone know which one it is ?

You did not answer my question. On Virustotal TWO engines are reporting Speccy installer as a TROJAN, This is nothing like the chrome toolbar or whatever. I am talking about TROJANS. It is up to you to liase with the relevant antivirus companies to get them to remove the wording.

I like using Speccy and have recently purchased a Windows 10 computer. I downloaded the free windows version from the official site but Virustotal has it flagged by three engines , two as trojans and one as a bundled toolbar. Therefore I cannot instal Speccy until this matter is sorted. ****You should not be thinking about developing a new version of Speccy before you can get the existing version right.**** Please reply as I do like Speccy.

Tried another instal today and missed the option to uncheck installing Google Chrome ! So when this started installing as well as ccleaner I went to my system backup. If you have an "arrangement" with Chrome to add an option to istal their browser, it should be shown more clearly. However the outcome is I did then successfully instal ccleaner

No it wasn't as you have shown. The error message mentioned ccupdate.exe and the message gave the option to cancel, skip that file or continue. I have since reverted my hard drive to 31st August and then uninstalled ccleaner (also removed ccupdate.exe) and did another backup. So if it doesn't instal today my system will not have to go back very far. I don't normally have problems with installing programs, so it is a mystery. I did check the hash file etc at the time before installing and they did match

In my case I have several computers that were automatically updated to 5.63 BUT one machine that I hadn't used for a while had 5.58 so I downloaded 5.63 using the official download from piriform and put it on a CD using another machine. I tried to instal 5.63 offline using the cd on the machine that had not been updated automatically, and the installation/update came to a halt, something to do with CCUpdate.exe is this anything to be concerned about ? As a precaution I uninstalled ccleaner from that machine and will instal another product soon .

Interesting that the portable version of CCleaner is only flagged by one agent on Virustotal. I installed the portable version of ccleaner on a usb stick, it works fine. CCleaner was always my favorite cleaner so I am pleased that I have been able to get to a compromise and continue to use the programme. I also like Avast and AVG . AVG I think has less features than Avast but I am pleased to be able to use both these tools, on seperate machines of course.

OK , I apologise you do not actually remove messages but to the best of my knowledge you do "lock" the subject if that is correct term to certain messages. It is only recently I have found out by chance that slimbuilds of ccleaner have been available in the past and there appears to be a current "portable" version that only gets flagged by one site on virustotal, which gives me some hope . ****How come you do not mention to people the slim or portable versions of ccleaner ? *** Or should we put 2 and 2 together ourselves ?

CCleaner has gone from being one of the best tools to one with bloatware. I understand that Ccleaner was aquired by Avast which I happen to like and have it installed on my machine. Does anyone know where the latest slim,build of ccleaner is, which hopefully doesn't contain anything nasty ? If suggestions are not forthcoming I will go to my favorite download site and look for other cleaners. The arrogance of Avast/Piriform amazes me. If the moderators don't like negative feedback they remove peoples posts ! Not very democratic. Return Ccleaner back to its original CLEAN and trustworthy self !!! or I'm off.

I tried the exe file today with Virus total and amongst other bad reports at least two of the antivirus engines are reporting it as a TROJAN . You must instal confidence in users by dealing with the companys that are flagging the program. All this seems to have occurred after you got taken over by another company or it could be just a coincidence. For me there is only so much checking I can do and will be looking for a new cleaner. Sad, but I am not going to risk anything even if other people are prepared to take the risk.

With each new release of CCeaner free version I check Virustotal before I instal it. Recent versions of CCleaner have shown a gradual increase in the number of engines reporting ccleaner as dangerous or words to that effect. With the latest version five engines have detected ccleaner. I have emailed ccleaner suppoprt to change their installer or whatever and to contact the antivirus companys that are reporting problems. I cannot see ccleaner/piriform doing anything to correct the matter and based on its history whereby a version was proven not to be clean I do not like their arrogance. If you look at Virustotals website the number of their community members complaining about the product is nearly forty and rising. CCleaner is a good program and I will keep an old version of the program on my computers but their reluctance to address the current matter can only make users make their own assumptions about the company.
