  1. Hey.

Microsoft supports are claiming that CCleaner registry cleaning should NOT be used in WIn 10.

They say not only doesn't the registry cleaning help much, but it can HARM the system?

I have tried to find any solid info from any Piriform source regarding registry cleaning and Windows 10.

Could any devs here answer if CCleaners Registry cleaning should NOT be used in Win 10? Or is it only Microsoft who dont want users to use tools?

The Microsoft support said that Windows 10 registry doesnt work the same way as previous Windows, and that using CCleaners registry cleaning can corrupt the system.

I have used CCleaner for 10 something years, and it has fixed my Windows registry more times then I can remember. However, when running it in Win 10, I HAVE gotten "weird" effects. Microsoft claims that Win 10 registry is "self-repairing", and tools like CCleaner is not meant for Win 10.

Can anyone advice? I am looking for Piriform staff/devs/links ONLY.

Changes I made to reduce Defraggler run time from more than a day to less than 6 hours for 1TB on Windows 7

Defrag was super slow prior to doing this.

Go to Settings > Options > Advanced tab

Check - Save all settings to INI file

Check - Stop VSS when defragmenting NTFS volume

Check - Use custom fragmention settings:  - click Define button - check box on both options: Exclude restore point, and, Exclude hibernation file.

Thanks! That fixed it for me as well! I thought that 24 hours for defragging a 2TB disk was a bit long =)

Safe? Well, it's very unlikely that you will die. It is however pointless as you cannot physically overwrite a nand flash page. You will also force the SSD to do a huge and unecessary amount of page writes and deletions, which is a waste of time, electricity and a little bit of the SSD's life. That's why you are getting the warning.

With TRIM enabled you should find very few deleted files using, for instance, Recuva. Those that are found will be mainly small files held in the MFT, which wipe free space will not remove anyway.

A far better process it to run an occasional defrag Optimise, which will TRIM any deleted pages it finds.

Thank you kindly for the fast response!

I found your defrag tool and using that right now. I didn't really see windows defrag doing much, and didn't know you guys had one!

This question is now Answered awesomely!

  4. Hi there!

First, thanks for a fantastic product! I have been using it since forever and it has solved more problems then I can count.

I have a question regarding the "Wipe Free Space" feature. Is it safe to use that on a SSD drive? I get a warning when I try to.

    Thanks again!
