I don't necessarily think this is a "new" development because with the default Tmp/Temp paths on Windows it will cause allot of issues changing their paths.

I found out nearly two decades ago it's better to create the new Tmp/Temp paths you prefer to use such as C:\Temp, D:\Temp, etc., and then manually change settings in each individual program one at a time that will allow you to change the Tmp/Temp path in their settings. Programs that don't allow you to change the folder path setting would continue using the default paths that Windows assigned. Doing it that way doesn't "break" some programs.

Many programs have no settings for temp files locations and use location of system environment. For example CCleaner installer unpack install files to Temp folder specified in environment settings. I cannot choose which temp folder that installer use.

I only want from CCleaner clean all of those Temp Folders.

  2. Hello,

I changed Temp folders locations under "Environment variables".

    Default was:

For user: TEMP and TMP: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp and for system: C:\Windows\Temp

    I changed it to:

    User: D:\Temp and system: D:\Windows\Temp

Some programs ignore this settings and still use default paths, so CCleaner should clean both actual and default paths. I understand clearing default user path can be difficult due different user names, but CCleaner should get user name from other source.

Problem: CCleaner not clean default user path %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp and changed system path D:\Windows\Temp

Tested on CCleaner 6.07.10191 64bit with administrator rights on Windows 10 64bit 22H2.

Tested on "Temporary files" checkbox with test file created by me (so file is not used).

"Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 24 hours" unchecked.

    Thank you.

From that link you posted, there is written: "Anything Windows stores in the CryptnetUrlCache is there to try and make certain aspects of browsing the internet faster for you."

And because this folder is very small, for me only few KB, I see no reason to delete it if that files can speed up my internet browsing. It should not be ticked by default, same as "MS search" which causes rebuilding search index after reboot.

  4. Hello,

because you NOT updated documentations about this product found here: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/360047808092-Windows-operating-system-cleaning-rules#files-and-data-you-can-clean-in-your-windows-operating-system--0-3 I have to ask, what exactly do new cleaning options "Windows Web cache" which cleans "CryptnetUrlCache" folder.

For what is this folder used?

Is completely safe delete those files? It cannot damage or slow my system?

    Windows 7 64 bit

    Thanks.

BTW you should always update your documentations first to prevent similar questions about undocumented changes.

  5. Hello,

i cant believe what you did. Automatic update requires all time running CCleaner64.exe. Why? It is another all time ruining process, which slow down computer especially boot times on slow machines. I think the whole purpose of all time running CCleaner64.exe is monitor users same way as Avast do. You already added CCupdate.exe years ago which is able update too. Why you not use this?

Of course i disabled this immediately, but is enabled by default for all users! Same spyware as Avast.

CCleaner  was build for removing junk from PC, but all time ruining process, silent Avast installations, CCleaner browser in CCleaner installation make junk from this software and this is sad what happen to this program after Avast bought it.

  6. Hello, my Windows Event Wiever is full of those errors. Win 7 64bit:

So i hope it will be fixed.

  7. Hello, i just wonder how those microupdates works. For example i am still on CCleaner 5.63 while i have new Health check. I dont understand how this is possible if CCleaner64.exe was not modified. So where are updates stored? Thank you.

  8. Sometimes when i run CCleaner, it stuck at IE clean for some time and after some time it continue with Esent error (Event 489 - WebCacheV01.dat only for reading) in windows log.

But sometimes is stuck completely without doing anything for some time (CCleaner clean IE cookie that moment), then i must hit cancel button and after that CCleaner completely freeze and windows must shut down CCleaner. (Application hang - Event 1002).

I use default settings for IE. Win 7 64 bit

Just looked at its source. It sets the files attributes to normal then creates a new file in its place. No file is ever overwritten. The creator's idea of the Gutmann method(ignoring 20 years old and pointless ) is to use a for loop 35 times using an ineffective buffer. The code is utter garbage.

So you want tell me you are able recover files deleted by this program?

  10. Thanks for answer.

So if i disable service in CCleaner, then  is set to MANUAL not DISABLED right?

Anyway disabled service from CCleaner should remember last state Automatic or Automatic delayed or if I enable inactive service it should remember if was Manual or Disabled (for safe rollback).
